Suppose that you have a portable handheld (like a 3DS) or a miniature console (like the NES Classic) that had ten games of your choice. If you could have one, what ten games would you want on it? Here are the caveats:
  1. All ten games have to come from the same platform. If a game was on two or more different consoles (like Ocarina of Time), then you should only consider the version on the platform of your choice. Be sure to specify what handheld or console it’s based on.
  2. They all have to be made or published by Nintendo, Sega, Namco, or Rare.
  3. If it’s a Pokémon game, only one version can be included.
  4. There is no internet, but local wireless gameplay is optional.
  5. You may assume that the game is of the original version or improved version, but do not specify that. Titles only.
    • If it’s an Animal Crossing game, assume that traveling requirements and wi-fi features have been removed.
  6. This is for games only. No hardware or console design discussions.

These are my 10:
  1. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  2. Super Mario 3D Land
  3. Pokémon Ultra Sun
  4. Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS
  5. Kirby Triple Deluxe
  6. Mario Kart 7
  7. Yo-kai Watch
  8. Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer
  9. Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World (3DS)
  10. Tomodachi Life

this is a fun idea. i will pick my trusty old 3DS as that is the portable console i have the most mileage on. i have since moved on to playing mostly pc games so i couldn't pick as many games that i would enjoy on the nintendo switch. in no particular order:

1. pokemon alpha sapphire - still my favorite generation to this day and steven is such a dreamboat haha
2. fire emblem awakening - my favorite fire emblem game of all time
3. fire emblem fates - i also enjoyed this one a lot as well just not as much as awakening c':
4. animal crossing new leaf - of course
5. tales of the abyss - i haven't played many tales of games to compare so i'm not sure how this particular entry would rank amongst the others but i do enjoy abyss. it's a great classic jrpg
6. nintendogs - a fun shut off ur brain choice haha
7. super smash bros. - another fun casual game to play
8-9. bravely default/end layer - another great jrpg i've enjoyed both the original and the sequel
10. animal crossing happy home designer

Here are my ten (I prefer if my gaming device is a portable tablet with controls):
  1. Pokémon Stadium
  2. Ocarina of Time
  3. Paper Mario 64
  4. Diddy Kong Racing
  5. Pokémon Snap
  6. Super Mario 64
  7. Donkey Kong 64
  8. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
  9. Mario Kart 64
  10. Majora’s Mask
And what console did all these games come from? The Nintendo 64!

Here's my list for the 3DS.

1. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
2. Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer
3. Xenoblade Chronicles 3D
4. Pokemon Ultra Sun
5. Fire Emblem Awakening
6. Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon
7. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
8. Pokemon Omega Ruby
9. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
10. Kirby Triple Deluxe

I'd go with a 3ds.

- ACNL welcome amiibo
- Pokemon white 2 (via DS mode)
- Donkey kong country 2 (via virtual console)
- Kirby Planet Robobot
- Pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of sky (via DS mode)
- Cave story 3d
- Ocarina of time 3d
- Professor Layton & the unwound future (via DS mode)
- Chrono Trigger DS (via DS mode)
- Metroid Samus Returns

hmmmm i’ll have to go with my 3DS :3
  1. super princess peach (DS)
  2. mario party ds (DS)
  3. mario and sonic at the winter olympic games (DS)
  4. style savvy (DS)
  5. hakuouki: memories of the shinsengumi (3DS)
  6. pokémon soulsilver (DS)
  7. super smash bros (3DS)
  8. fire emblem: awakening (3DS)
  9. kingdom hearts 358/2 days (DS)
  10. kirby's extra epic yarn (3DS)

Question: if you pick a console with backwards compatibility, like the Wii U, can you pick games it can play that weren’t made specifically for the console (in this case, would I be able to include Wii games)?

I want to know this too before I list mine since I don’t have a lot of 3DS game but I have DS games that it can play.

Such a tough question. I'll choose a 10-in-1 mini Nintendo 64 as my choice.

Super Smash Bros.
Mario Kart 64
Paper Mario
Pokemon Snap
Pokemon Stadium
Goldeneye 007
Kirby 64: Crystal Shards
Blast Corps
This might be sort of cheating, but my 9th game would be Doubutsu no Mori (Animal Crossing), translated so I could play it :)
And applying a similar bending of the rules Custom Robo (or v2), also magically translated

I’m sorry, but they all have to come from the same console. You can’t have both DS and 3DS games.

No. If you choose one console, you can only choose the games made for the console. But you can choose remakes that have been made for the console.

This is an interesting thought experiment. I'd go with the GameCube, since there's a lot of fantastic games on there. I tried to make it more challenging and only go with one game at most for a given series, which made the overall list more interesting. In alphabetical order:
  • Animal Crossing
  • Metroid Prime
  • Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
  • Pikmin
  • Pokemon Colosseum
  • Skies of Arcadia: Legends
  • Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
  • Star Fox Adventures
  • Super Mario Sunshine
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

  1. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  2. Super Mario 3D Land
  3. Pokemon Alpha Sapphire
  4. Super Smash Bros 3DS
  5. Pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of sky
  6. Mario Kart
  7. Ocarina of time 3d
  8. Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer
  9. Super Mystery Dungeon (If its allowed)
  10. Fantasy Life
This is a fun idea.

Going with 3DS and all of its glory

1. Pokémon Alpha Sapphire
2. Pokémon Ultra Sun
3. Animal Crossing: New Leaf Welcome Amiibo
4. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
5. Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
6. Pokémon X
7. Super Mario 3D Land
8. Mario Kart 7
9. Donkey Kong Country 2 (VC)
10. Pokémon Yellow (VC)

My GBA Choices:
1. Pokemon Emerald Version
2. Wario Land 4
3. Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak
4. Game and Watch Gallery 4
5. Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Games
6. Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga (never played but interested!)
7. Spyro Attack of the Rhynocs (never played but interested!)
8. Super Mario Bros 3 (never played but interested!)
9. Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past Four Swords (never played but interested!)
10. Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3

- Can I buy other games later? hehe

3ds choices:

1) Animal Crossing: New Leaf
2) Tomodachi Life
3) Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
4) A Link Between Worlds
5) Majora's Mask
6) Mario Kart 7
7) Nintendogs + Cats
8) Kirby's Epic Yarn
9) Kirby Triple Deluxe
10) Style Savvy

I thought about this for a while, and I’m going to pick 3DS games:

1. Super Mario 3D Land
2. Mario Kart 7
3. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
4. Kirby Triple Deluxe
5. New Super Mario Bros. 2
6. Pokémon ORAS
7. Kirby Planet Robobot
8. Super Smash Bros. 4
9. Animal Crossing: New Leaf Welcome Amiibo
10. A Link Between Worlds

This is a creative idea and I really wish I could pick Virtual Console. But I guess it needs to be more limited.

My choice of Nintendo 3DS titles:

1. Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer
2. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
3. Tomodachi Life
4. Miitopia
5. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
6. Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX
7. Mario Kart 7
8. Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn
9. New Super Mario Bros. 2
10. WarioWare Gold

Why is everyone choosing the 3DS over older consoles? Is there a factor that gives the 3DS an edge over others?
It might have to do with nostalgia. I just chose it because I thought it would be the most fun to do, but I might also do it with another console.
