Somewhere I read certain items purchased at TIY do not count towards achieving your spending goals. Do fortune cookies apply? My store is pathetic. I've purchased same items over and over. Same for clothing. I have noticed what I sell at Re-Tail ends back up at TIY. Getting really fed up with this game.

I doubt fortune cookies apply because I think it's bells and not play coins that the game cares about with upgrades.

"You can upgrade the item shop so it sells more items. You do so by spending bells at the item shop and doing a few other things. Only items that can be sold out count toward your total. In other words, stationery, wrapping paper, and melody cards don't count toward the bell total. Fortune cookies are counted as 500 bells."

Buying the songs everyday is an easy 3000+ bells spent, you can just sell it after. And now in halloween time its also easy to buy new furniture. The sweet set seem to consist of parts of like 4000 each.
