Silver Star Glow Wand

i bought my third game the other day when they were on sale at target, and i already have a plan for what i want this town to be. i have a basic idea of how i'd like my map to look, but every time i start up the game and look at the maps rover gives me, i'm not satisfied with any of them. i know i'll probably have to reset a few times anyway (i refuse to get oranges as my fruit again) but i'm hoping for a bunch of different opinions/ideas to help my own.

so just like the title says, what makes a map layout perfect for you guys and why?
screenshots would be nice as well ; v ;

I dislike having a pond right in front of my train station (inconvenient). I also dislike having a stretch of beach that is only accessible by swimming (also super inconvenient!).

I like having my map somewhat evenly split by the river, so I don't have a half that is really narrow. Villager house placement doesn't really factor in for me because I can always move them out :>

Good luck! I know that I've reset for a day+ to get a map that I like, so I understand where you're coming from!

It depends on what I want for the town theme. For example, for Palinoia I had to have a large space some where in the top part of the map and retail at the bottom part so that's what map I got. It all depends on the way I want to my town to look like.

I like a river that doesn't take up too much space by being really windy. That was my first town and it was a pain to do PWPs :/

Here is my map now:

The only thing that really annoys me is some of the places my villagers have decided to put their houses down >.>

I like the fact that my train station, town hall, plaza and Re-Tail are all quite close to each other.

My map is also pretty evenly split by the river.

I prefer a beach that has access via two ramps to the whole beach, so I knew I wanted a river that ended up at the top somewhere for the beach.

And I wanted cherries and triangle grass.

That was all my criteria when I was starting for my map.

I also bought another copy this weekend and am going to map reset. Here are the things I want:

1. Re-Tail, town hall, and plaza close to the train station. I don't want to run all over the place and it gives me more space to work with for the rest of the map.

2. A short river. Again this is an ease of access thing. Unfortunately, a short river means lots of rocks. :(

3. Only one or two ponds. Any more becomes annoying and you still have to deal with rocks on those acres which stinks even more. A pond in front of the train station is unacceptable to me.

4. Apples or peaches as the native fruit. Pears and oranges look ugly to me and my first town has cherries, so I hope RNJesus is kind to me when I find a map I like.

5. West to east waterfall and east facing beach if possible (since my first town's beach is west facing), but the river flow and beach direction are secondary to the stuff above. I just don't want the large pond in the middle of the map because I want my bridges to be placed symmetrically.

Somewhere cute and secluded for my house, peaches as fruit, town plaza on the edge of town (it just gets in the way in the middle!), a long stretch of beach for fishing, no pond outside the train station, somewhere nice for my campsite and cafe.

There's more but ill stop there :)

As few ponds/rocks as possible
Preferably circle grass
Green/Brown Town Hall and Station
Plaza not on the borders
Retail and Town Hall against the borders
At least 1 dreamie
Peaches/Apples or Cherries

I'm gonna look for a map today as I'm trying to get back into ACNL

I think a map withh a simpler clean river curve would be nice, so there's all the room to compile different ideas into and not have to form small themes in a tighly compacted area of the town. maybe just one pond and have most of the big buildings near the center of the town rather than closer to the side walls and deffinitely a decently sized beach !

I also got another copy from Target last weekend :) For me I wanted a river that didn't split the map too evenly because I wanted a row of villagers altogether, and enough PWP space on the other side. I also wanted apples as my native fruit because I have peaches in main town and cherries in cycling town. Not a pear or orange person. I also got one pond which I ended up liking. The only thing I hate are the entrances to my beaches are on opposite ends of each other. I don't like the beach anyway psh whatever

Oh and I wanted my town plaza near the train station. In my main town when I was a noob I had it in bottom right corner and hate it. Never reset though so now was my chance to make it better~

I wasn't really very fussed about my town layout at all. Remembering that a lot of the shops in Wild World were up close to the top of the map, all I really wanted was Re-Tail to be as close to the Train Station as possible - makes sense for me on a business standpoint.

Other than that, I felt fine with the town layout. Sure, this too has a winding river that splits the map like a jigsaw puzzle, but I'm used to working well with what I've got x)

I think my current map is basically perfect (for my purposes, anyway), and I chose it for the following reasons:

-the river is s-shaped (a reverse s, really), which creates nice vertical stretches
-a nice, long vertical stretch of beach
-two ponds - neither too few nor too many...though, honestly, I wouldn't have been upset if there had been three
-re-tail isn't very far from the beach
-the waterfall cuts a small section of the beach off, creating a lovely little private beach

But, like I said, those are my criteria. You may find that you have different needs.

Villagers who pick their own fruit, deliver their own packages, catch their own fish and bugs, shake their own trees, don't try to sneak out of town on the sly and so on, lol :)

I usually like to look for maps that don't have too many ponds, a river that isn't everywhere, somewhere that looks like it'd be a great place for my home and campsite, and for both the town hall and Re-Tail to be against the train tracks so nobody places their houses back there.
It's even better if apples are the native fruit and it overall looks pretty clean or I'm able to run through the town and know exactly where I'm going to place what PwP.

For Ruddyoak, I went with the first map I was given, which not only had my desired fruit--apples--but also had a decent map and every one of my starter villagers was a beloved friend from the GameCube days. But since that kind of luck only happens once*, here are my preferences:

-a great nook (haha, I've got puns) in which to place my house
-Re-Tail near the train tracks (it's an eyesore IMO, and I want it out of the way so I can design the rest of the town)
-one or two ponds; none in front of the train station
-as few rocks as possible
-a private beach so I can leave a surprise there for dream visitors
-plaza not on a cliff or next to the mountain's edge (I like to surround it with landscaping on all four sides)
-room in front of Town Hall to place some PWPs
-town fruit of choice (apples & cherries are my favorites, but since I have four towns, I like each to be different or to fit the theme of the town)

I am not bothered by grass type, initial villager placement, etc.

*Wait, I lied. When I started my town of Goblin, it was supposed to be a cycle town that I could use, delete, and then start up again as the "real" Goblin town that I would keep forever. But I accidentally got my ideal map and my required fruit--peaches--on the first try. I was actually annoyed at that. Haha!
