I'm going to barge in here and just make this clear and simple.
Get a Mac if the only thing you'll be doing is multimedia editing/viewing (ie: Music and Movies) and internet browsing. If money isn't a problem and you don't game very often, get this.
Get a Windows computer (ASUS, HP Pavilion, Acer) if you know you will be downloading or installing different programs (Windows is universally compatible with most programs out there). Also, Windows is more game-friendly than a Mac is, so keep that in mind. Windows is also much cheaper than the average Mac computer.
Now as for people bashing on Windows saying that it sucks, you obviously don't know much about computers. Windows is a completely reliable OS and hasn't let me down once. I've never had a computer crash on me before, and I've never had a virus. You have to learn to be smart and avoid shady looking websites or downloads. Never tinker with your computer settings unless you absolutely know what you're doing.
