Can we please get back onto the topic of laptop brands please?
Protip: Don't ask for advice on TBT, either that or don't expect or take advice.
I can see why. <_< Some people won't get off the topic of Operating Systems.
Well, it's like a chain

OSes have and need certain hardware or such

Dell =/= Mac

I'm going to barge in here and just make this clear and simple.

Get a Mac if the only thing you'll be doing is multimedia editing/viewing (ie: Music and Movies) and internet browsing. If money isn't a problem and you don't game very often, get this.

Get a Windows computer (ASUS, HP Pavilion, Acer) if you know you will be downloading or installing different programs (Windows is universally compatible with most programs out there). Also, Windows is more game-friendly than a Mac is, so keep that in mind. Windows is also much cheaper than the average Mac computer.

Now as for people bashing on Windows saying that it sucks, you obviously don't know much about computers. Windows is a completely reliable OS and hasn't let me down once. I've never had a computer crash on me before, and I've never had a virus. You have to learn to be smart and avoid shady looking websites or downloads. Never tinker with your computer settings unless you absolutely know what you're doing.

We haven't got a mac store for miles

It's all windows down here ;D

Just don't get dell :<
Yeah don't get a Dell. I once had one a few years ago. It caught on fire. :/
O-o

And really, this is one of those things the majority can't decide, you have to take into thought personal preference, ect.

They have certain +s and -s
If you get anything, I seriously suggest an Apple brand computer. :)
I know from experience. My school has macs and they're really *censored.2.0*ty. I'm talking about the OS, the system specs themselves are pretty good. You can't play any games, at all. The user interface is over simplified and leaves little room for tweaking.

You do not know from experience. The school won't let you install games, and the school blocks most of the controls for the tweaking due to them being overprotective.
So don't say you have experience with them.

Yeah Windows is pretty cool. Especially Windows 7 (I have that). And if someone was a gamer on their computer, I'd reccomend Windows. But for everything else, Mac is the way to go (for me) :D

Still doesn't explain away backwards compatibility, games, or upgrading.

What are you talking about? Mac has a hell of a lot more backwards compatibility than Windows does. And you can upgrade. And for games, just install Windows via Boot Camp if you must!

Virtually everything from 2000 and later is compatible with 7. The amount of backwards compatibility for OSX is lacking. Windows doesn't run as smoothly on Macs.

Any suggestions on a good brand?
I have already decided to get a Windows so please stop arguing over OS'
