I like letting them randomly move in. Sometimes it's in my favor, usually not so much. This is how I got my best villagers and also my worst - which seem to be villagers with mustaches. I always get mediocre villagers whenever I island hop so I rarely bother.

I really like island hopping but I am gonna amiibo in Freckles because I love her too much to resist.

I think that island hopping is the most fun way to get a villager. But, if we're talking about getting a dreamie, then buying/trading villagers is definitely the way to go. The chances of finding one or two specific villagers is minuscule.

I don't have any amiibos, so that method is impossible for me, but I would probably prefer it over trading.
Random move ins is probably the worst since I would just be getting all of the voided villagers from my friends and people I've traded with.

I like the campsite. Everyone I’ve gotten via the campsite so far has been really good (minus Rodney).

I ordered some amibos to get the villagers I really want, but I’m still waiting on them :(

my main method is island hopping - a literal pain to do but i find the mystery aspect of it to be a bit fun. and plus, if i obtain my dreamies myself rather than getting them from other people, i find that i appreciate them more and feel more accomplished c’:

these poll results are so wild to me, lmfao.

i literally havent gone island hopping since my 7th villager and even then only went to 4 islands - and i've definitely had over 15 villagers so far. my patience is about 2/10 for island hopping. i always trade for villagers/adopt thru forum whomp whomp

I've said it before and I'll happily say it again; Island hopping reminds me greatly of shiny hunting. I really enjoy the thrill, and it's very rewarding to get a villager I wanted!

All methods are fine, but this is my order of preference:
  • Amiibo is the most convenient and hassle-free. But the problem is the availability of cards.
  • Campsite method is perfect for personality-specific hunts. It's tedious, but worth it.
  • Island hopping is luck-based. But at least NMTs are cheaper now.
  • Adoption. I only rely on giveaways. I don't like "purchasing" a villager.
  • Randoms, I avoid. I've been trading a lot so I visit lots of islands. I really don't like what I'm getting in voids.

I prefer the RNG element. It can be frustrating, that's for sure, but I don't like the idea of "shopping" to get "my" villagers (which doesn't mean that I don't understand why people do it) and I don't have any usable amiibos. I simply hope for the best, try my luck and see what happens. Last night I found Merengue on my 10th ticket, so I won't complain, teehee...

Slightly OT: The longer version is that I can't relate to the concept of having an island/a town full of "dreamies" because I don't want my place to become static. I need some organic movement in my game, therefore I wouldn't try to buy the villagers I might want. I couldn't even tell which ones I'd actually be willing to pay for, haha. I'll stick to island tours and my campers, but I'm happy for those who find what they're looking for.

I like going on nmt island trips, but since I spent 90+ tickets in the search for a new villager last week I'm kinda burnt out.

I'm gonna take a break from it this week and keep my fingers crossed for a good campsite visitor, it's been a while since I had one.

Island hopping for me. The RNG aspect of island hopping has been super enjoyable so far, and I love getting new villagers and cycling them out. I keep 2 plots for rotating villagers and getting new villager photos, while keeping 8 dreamies of mine. I bought one villager at one point, and realized that finding them on an island is much more satisfying for me.

I'd love to get some Amiibo cards, but with packs being around the $30 mark, that is probably a long ways off. Most of the villagers I'd want are in the $50+ range...
