What got you addicted?

The fact that I can have friends and decorate the town as I please is pretty much what got me. I like having a routine and acnl fulfills my need for a routine lol

It's such a relaxing game. It's great for coping with stress or mild anxiety. Animal Crossing is the closest thing to a hug as a video game can be.

agscribble (and superkell), absolutely agreed! I initially played AC: Wild World and loved tootling around my town. Subsequently, I fell into playing Glitch, an MMO, and there was a similar element of just wandering around, gardening, petting trees, milking butterflies, etc. AC was a big influence for Glitch's lead art designer, and the game overall was very gentle. It closed in 2012.

And then AC:NL. There's something so relaxing and soothing about routinized play that doesn't demand much of you. You can set your own little schedule and there's plenty of room to just muck around as it suits you. In some ways, it's a bit of a sedative for me. An escape, a happy place, a way to focus my mind and stop worrying about piddly stuff. Throw in the excellent writing by the localization team, the fantastic animation and character design, and the sheer quantity of stuff to explore, deco, play with and collect, and it's just a lovely place to be.

Well, I've had every version. GameCube is what started it all. It's a huge part of my childhood. I still would play the GameCube if I was in the mood. xD I remember decorating my house with all fish lol

I had a best friend back in Elementary school. Her name is Bradi. We both had gamecubes and would always play on them when we hung out (or play with Bratz dolls)
She showed me this weird game that you were a person, but everyone else in the game was an animal.
I got so hooked that I asked my parents to buy it for me,
and here I am, Age 20, playing every single game of Animal crossing that has come out to this date :)

I really like simulations, I've been addicted to The Sims franchise since 2nd grade, and ACNL is a simulation in a way where you build your town so I think thats why I like it so much.

When they were still legal, I had an R4 without knowing it on my DS. Probably because I was about 4 or 5 when I got it. I was really interested in Fauna when I had it, and then I saw this game called "Animal Crossing: Wild World". When I first saw it, I immediately thought it was going to be about this edutainment. You know, like those games that make learning seem like fun. I loaded it up, played until Nook's Shift where I had a hardlock, then I met Resetti. His mean nature made me think "This game might not be for me after all".

A few years later, my cousins got a Wii. Yay. We played Wii Sports for hours whenever we went to their house. I always cost my team the whole game on tennis and always scored a last on every other game, but it was jolly good fun for me. In 2010, and obviously waaaaaaaaaaay long than it should had been, we got a Wii ourselves! It also came with this USB port, a bit like an R4. Except it was for the Wii. By the time, I didn't play my DS anymore because all of the games weren't fun, around the time it got banned. We were kinda like that "Nintendo SIXTY FOOOOOOUR" thing on YouTube, but it wasn't filmed.

One day, I got bored, so I scoured every corner of our Wii Port. I found CF on it. My experience with WW was now just a memory lurking in the back of my brain, so I loaded it up. Despite not remembering WW, I had some Deja Vu on the graphics...

This time, it doesn't hardlock if you play too long. The next day I loaded it up, AKA 2 months from when I started, Resetti did his little "Welcome to AC please save or else I'll come and bash you thanks" thing. Then I suddenly remembered all the Deja Vu and Nostalgia. But it seemed much more better, so I didn't completely ditch it.

2 years later, the Wii U and 3DS came. I really have literally nothing to say except we got Batman and Mario Party 9. Despite all the negative reviews and feedback, I really liked it and thought it was improved in every way than Mario Party 8, which was on said port.

Oh crap, here comes the flame war!

Even though I didn't get a Wii U, I got a 3DS, Super Pokemon Rumble, Freaky Forms Deluxe, and PMDGTI, and my brother got XBOX 360 games, because my half brother gave his to my brother in June.

Throughout my year, my brother tested out my games on his own 3DS, one of them being Freaky Forms. He got it, and a few months later, I got ScribbleNauts Unlimited. He also found it fun, and got his own.

Around November, we were looking for Christmas gifts. My mother allowed him to buy a XBOX 360 game right away, but I had to wait until Christmas. Being the youngest DEFINITELY sucks.

On Christmas, I had a lot of thin presents. AKA, Game Cartridges. Despite not wanting one, Animal Crossing turned up instead of Alpha Sapphire. Oh well, at least I got it for my birthday this year on January 25. I still remembered City Folk, but this one seemed a bit more fresh. A reboot, perhaps? Because when I had a peek at the cartridge, I only saw newbies, including special characters. I knew only one thing about the game: You had full house customisation. I saw an ad about it, and I remember someone talking about buying a real T-Rex. Pretty weird, right? Though, despite thinking it as a reboot, I have now realised that there's Peanut,K.K Slider, Kapp'n, and Tom Nook. It's pretty obvious how I remember the two that seem like completely normal animals but actually a yokai, I saw K.K Slider when roaming the museum, and Peanut was my WW villager.

Note to self: Pay more attention to the box art!

I dived in on Christmas, but I forgot to save. Bummer. When I started on Boxing Day, I got completely lost on a enthralling tale of happiness, misery-

Nope, I give up on being that Video Game Journalist Person.

I like this game because i can design everything by my own, i can play with my pace and do whatever i want, will never get bore on this game :)

I get addicted to anything that's customization heavy. I find myself planning how to organize and decorate things even when I'm not playing. Hence why I'm browsing these forums on my lunch break :)

I think collecting is a huge part of my addiction as well, but I also love designing/decorating my town and interacting with other players via wifi. Honestly, there are so many wonderful things about Animal Crossing that it's hard to pinpoint one specific thing that led to my addiction lol.

All the customization made it so much fun, the addition of pwp totally took it to a new level. It's so fun to see how different all towns and houses can be.

I think it's the fact that it's just so nice. There is nothing sexual, violent, or even competitive (debatable I guess) at all. I love the villagers, the music, the quirkiness and collecting sets and stuff. I love designing paths and shirts and seeing my villagers wearing them.

The gamecube got me addicted. Before it came out I bought all the magazine for information. I had mine on preorder and couldn't wait to play. Best game purchase.
With ACNL I just watched a few youtube trailers so it didn't get spoiled. I learnt as I went with this game. Again I did the preorder and got it on release day. ACNL is the longest I've played a AC game.

I played it when it first came out and after a year ended up putting it down. Then I realized there is this whole trading community on here and craved it again. I am glad I started playing it again because I had no clue you could do all of this. TBT is the reason I am addicted to it now.

Acnl is actually my first ac game. My friend said it was addicting once you buy it so I'm like "cool , I'll buy it"

I didn't get addicted to it at all until 1 month later , I have it laying there , so I was like I should play . now I'm like always on it now . it was when I was on tumblr & saw some cute towns so I was like "I WANT MY TOWN LIKE THIS" & saw really cute villagers & saw hair bow wigs & more. that got me so into it , & I also found this site too so that got me even more into it . xD (note : I'm 13) ;_;
