What Does the Next Animal Crossing Game Need?

Basically, they would be dumb not to add skin tones. They already did with HHD & PC so it's given it'll be a feature.

Paths should be an actual thing now. I feel like they didn't really intend for paths to be a thing, but obviously they acknowledge it as their own official town have had it & the WA update avoided villagers to move in on it--but they can only do so much with just an update. Next game should have specific plots for houses. And I'm sure the town would be bigger. They'd just be stupid not to implement these changes.

-For the villagers would interact with things and each other more. Yeah, it happens in NL, but it's kinda rare (at least for me). I remember in City Folk they were ALWAYS mad at each other, lol. Idk, it brings more life. In NL they're all kinda copy-paste feeling.

-Maybe a new species?

-This is a stretch, but it's a pwp wish of mine. Bring back the balloon stand! Nobody is ever on streetpass anymore and I have to buy all the balloons from here, lmao ;v;

-More event days! They're always complaining about no new events, and honestly, same.

Well I mean active players would be back if they just released a new game *____*

True about event days though. Sometimes I wanna be like, you're right Peanut WE should host our own event now!
Still do think they need Sports fest back. And little more events that would compliment other personalities.

- - - Post Merge - - -

Bring me Pocket Camp furniture. >:'o I can't play the game since I let my sister use my phone to play, (she doesn't have a compatible one) and I'm not paying $85 minimum for a basic tablet just to play a mobile Animal Crossing game.

But bring back Huggy, Rhoda, alongside some of the other things people have mentioned here. Make PWPs more easily accessible. PLEASE. I hate being unable to customize my town fully the way I would like, relying on an algorithm that spits 'any' request about as often as one catches a saddled bichir. >:'| I can catch 5 Dorado in one day, but that? Forget it.

Also some toggle modes for gameplay maybe. Like how we have ordinances, can choose Resetti; can we have a choice not to see scorpions or tarantulas for those of the faint of heart? Or GameCube-esque dialogue for villagers?

More personalities. Bring in the ceiling fixtures from HHD. Make a toggle for Amiibo villagers moving. More hybrids, fish, bugs, more places to explore and things to do. Storyline progress with the NPCs as we've seen. Better chat functionality, maybe bring back the USB keyboard functionality.

Something they should do re: PWP (because I'm sure they won't make it all available in one go) but to able to give our town a theme. Zen. City. Forest. Illuminated. Whatever. Basically, like how Pocket Camp makes us choose cool, cute, rustic etc. Then from that choice we'd unlock first set of PWP that would be based off our town theme. Because the frustrating part is waiting then getting a suggestion we won't even build. Then, after a certain amount of time & accomplishments, unlock the other PWPs and make it more regular and not just the villagers requesting it. We're the mayor why can't we just think of a PWP and build it!

I've also had that thought about Tortimer I was like it's 2018 & he's still thriving lol we're so bad

Perhaps an open world marketplace. That and an area like a cafe to congregate and meet new players so, you don't have to rely on going back and forth (outside of the game) trying to meet up for trading, visiting, etc.

I like the farming idea too. Would bring a larger aspect to the gameplay.

I'd really like to be able to send letters and gifts to friends online, not sure why nl doesn't have this feature? I didn't think about it until other people mentioned it, but the tool box idea is fantastic. I kind of wish the fruits would automatically stack... More interactions with items in the game! Like eating a spoonful of one of the dishes or even with public works projects.

I guess eating food furniture in particular would be kind of weird.. since you'd have to finish the food or it'd have a bite taken out, but it doesn't have to be super realistic? Idunno, I just wanna see more interactions. I'm not sure what kind of theme the new one would have, but I'd be for an updated graphics version of new leaf with added features. One of my biggest fears is that that'll change it so much it won't be the animal crossing we all know and love.. Like the camp counselor animal crossing would be a cool supplement to the mobile app, but how would we have our towns and stuff like that? I think that's my biggest concern at the moment.

Even if it was to registered ds friends?

I guess I don't really see the difference between that and going to the island with random people to send chat messages. Nintendo could also put online interactions aren't rated by ESRB.

The ability to choose your character's age, anyone? I think it would be pretty out of this world to see you play as a bit of an older avatar in the next Animal Crossing. Just a thought. With Nintendo's marketing lately with more adults appearing in the ads for the Switch, that would be a pretty cool possibility! I mean they made the Mii fighters taller in Smash Bros. Ultimate.

I want a bigger town and more characters for town names. Eight characters just doesn't cut it, man. I'd also like to be able to pick where a villager can move in, and which villagers move in. I don't know if there was a suggestion similar to this, but I think if we're still in charge of the town (or whatever it happens to be called) we should get a list like every week or every other day which shows which villagers want to move it. Kind of like how in HHD you had a few villagers standing outside the shop and you could pick the one you wanted. I'd also like a hub like area where you can go to meet and hang out with other people or your friends, maybe like the city in CL? Brewsters cafe and other pre-existing shops are still there. And you could also own a store there or something. I'm just gonna drop a list of things I wish are in the next game:
- More requests and interactions with villagers
- Villagers aren't as same-y, whether that's with new personality types or just more things added to make them different
- The ability to place furniture outside (obviously there'd have to be limitations because of PWP)
- A cobblestone path that the game already gives you that matches the cobblestone in the game
- More collectibles to complete
- More multiplayer things to do
- More minigames
- The ability to have multiple towns on one game cartridge
- DLC things are available every year unless they're year specific
- More letters from your Mom and Dad
- Non-permanent rocks. Those were a mistake
I heard the Pocket Camp was going to link up with the next game, but I've yet to see something from Nintendo stating that. In any case, I think we should be able to link our progress with the next game, and maybe the bells and furniture and such should have the option to be transferred to the game? Kind of like how you can sell your town in NL and keep your catalog and stuff.

-Add the ability to change your skin tone, and not just a few tones. We need variations of all colors, from super pale white, to rich in melanin, it?d be cool too if they could add a vitiligo feature, really make the player fully customizable.

-The tool box idea is amazing, too. Make it just like the letter folder, so there?s more room in your pockets, and a set place for all of your tools at all times.

-Add the ability to choose your villager?s housing plots, can?t stress this enough. It is so annoying when you have the perfect plot of land, where you?ve decided you?ll place a PWP or where you?re growing hybrids, perfect fruit (or fruit trees in general), and/or bushes, and then bam. All of it gone, all of your ideas for PWPs placements smashed in the blink of an eye by a ?this is where blah blah blah?s new home will be?. Not to mention the plot reset trick is so tedious, not to mention scary or unavailable to players afraid of doing things like that in their towns.

-It?d also be really nice to see new villagers, maybe some new species. Make at least one villager in every species every personality type, like for example, there being a cat villager of every personality type, instead of there being 5 of one type, and 5 of another, and so on. It?d be nice to see some variety, at least.

-Add more events, or maybe mini games like there are on the island, but instead you get coupons for ordering from the campground and RV?s?? Would be great for all of those times you?ve already completed your objectives, but you?re low on coupons.

-Add more fruit types, like berries, and more tropical fruits, and maybe even some vegetables?? I?d love that so much. It?d be so cool to be able to have a full on garden in your town, with fruits that grow on trees, fruits that grow on bushes, and veggies that you pull out of the ground like weeds, and harvest off of plants (like squash, pumpkins, etc). I?d love to see strawberries, raspberries, dragonfruit, melons of all kinds, and veggies, so badly. It would add so much that you could do in your town.

I love this game with all my heart, but it definitely would be nice to see more changes to it. I?d buy it in a heartbeat, no matter what console it was for. It would be cool though, that if they released an animal crossing for the switch that they could also release the same gamw for the 3DS, so that people can play it regardless of whether or not they have the switch.

??????????
OH, and added character space for town names, mayor names etc. 8 characters is definitely kind of weak. Along with more dialogue from villagers, so that villagers of the same type don?t constantly say the same things. It definitely can get tiring when your villagers repeat the same things over and over and over again.

I'd really like the Happy Home Designer additions. Some of them made their way into New Leaf during the Welcome Amiibo update, but not all of them did. Examples:

- character skin tone
- the ability to put furniture outside
- lamps that you can hang from the ceiling
- area rugs
- a lot more QR code slots

Some of those things also show up in Pocket Camp, so I'm thinking we may see at least some of those in the next game.

I also want to see:

- some kind of debit card system (either like City Folk or better)
- the ability to send letters to players in another town (can lock it down to people on a friends list if needed)
- more villagers per town
- the ability to turn off grass wear if desired
- more interaction with the NPCs outside of their particular job/event (maybe give them a house and/or let them walk around town)
- the ability to access the catalog machine even when the Nookling store is closed. To fit into modern times, maybe if you have a phone or PC item and you can order things using it over the NookNet (Nookling + internet, so an in-game thing). It would be equivalent to ordering stuff online in real life, so you could still get it in the mail

A subway.

After seeing some Let's Plays of Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion, where the story now takes place in a subway,
I would love to have one in the new Animal Crossing game. Basically replacing the train station, having a
underground part in your town which is kinda spooky, yet not too spooky and where you also meet some
weird villagers (maybe a inspiration for new villagers?). Some little shops there would be also nice (I could
imagine Redd having a little "shop" there, selling fake paintings and other items for high prices like he did
in City Folk). Maybe the subway is at the beginning dirty and not in it's best condition and the longer you
play, the more options you have to re-design it and make it better (like a PWP which can be upgraded
from time to time). I always wanted a big town with more buildings, shops and such and a subway would
be something new, something a Animal Crossing game didn't had yet.

I LOVE this idea. After designing everything in my towns, they felt strangely smaller and less explorative (if that makes sense). I think—and maybe this is a stretch right now—that there should be a bigger “second level” area as well up past the waterfall. It’s kind of like that with the RV Campground. However, I wish there was a map you could go over to on the other side; some similar features to your “Subway” area, but specific to that atmosphere.

I would go as far as to say make that area a secondary map where you can build, but that might be doing THE MOST. Lol

I would like to see the annoying things made optional, like the following.

Mail
Villager visits
Gyroids
Limit to how many villagers can move in so there's more room for other things.

Shelves. Actual shelves you can put stuff on, so you can display more in your home.

Make the villager homes look like other structures, like treehouses or barns or caves, instead of just variations of the same building plan.

More interactive PWPs, like taking the treehouse idea and making it something villagers can go into and hang out and decorate (kind of like secret bases from the 3rd and 4th gen pokemon games)

And a bat NPC, someone who wanders around and gives you his own furniture series if you catch certain bugs for him, like Pascal does with the Pirate theme set when you give him a scallop

Even if it was to registered ds friends?

I guess I don't really see the difference between that and going to the island with random people to send chat messages. Nintendo could also put online interactions aren't rated by ESRB.

I just think there’s a difference between chatting on Club Tortimer with people around you & someone sending you private letters. A lot of things can be said that you or the game cannot control. Sadly there are people out there who don’t know how to act, that’s why Pocket Camp being a mobile game don’t even have a single chat feature.

Everyone means anyone from age 8 to age 40 can play the game. It can be problematic, the island at least have mechanics like if you feel uncomfortable you can leave immediately etc & all that warning Kapp’n gives. There can be cases someone can be DS friends with strangers too, you’ll never know. I guess they can put the online interactions aren’t rated thing, but most likey they’d get complaints.

Club tortimer is optional, letters are not. (and if you have to go through hoops to read an online letter from a friend what’s the point)

I can see them doing online hub, with hang out area for your friends. Or like someone said, online market place for easier trading. Though I just thought how difficult it is to chat on AC lol

Some safer online functions. Like if you open your gates, you get to allow whether people can use certain tools and pick up/drop items. Sometimes a friend will accidentally dig up one of my bushes, so I think banning tools/some tools would be a good feature. It also prevents strangers from destroying your town, which apparently is a sad thing that does happen.

I also hope they bring over more HHD stuff, especially house exterior (oh how I wish I could have a palace in ACNL).

And something that's been bothering me for ages is the wolf villagers' personalities! They're so off!!
First of all, way too little diversity, the majority are cranky and snooty and the only Jock wolf that exists was exclusive to the Japanese version of Animal Forest e+! And almost none of the personalities match either, it's like someone threw random dice to decide who gets what personality.
Kyle should be Lazy, not Smug. Wolfgang and Fang should be Smug, not Cranky. Chief should be Jock or Smug, not Cranky. Whitney and/or Freya should be Uchi, not Snooty. What the hell is up with the wolf villagers!
I'm probably more upset over this than others 'cause my 2nd town is a wolf town, and having no Jock (my favourite personality) is really sad.

Anyway, enough ranting - I also hope for more PWPs, more villagers (a fox villager would be really cool), more furniture, more stuff being refurbishable (especially wallpaper and flooring), and just more stuff to do in general. What keeps ACNL still strong today is making your town pretty, but besides that there's not much to do once you finish everything and have experienced the events as many times as most of us have.
On that note, maybe more online stuff to do as well, besides tours. Something specifically in the town rather than outside it would be great.

Oh gosh, if we were to get a new Animal Crossing game on the switch...

I'd first love to see new animals for sure! I've seen people come up with a lot of concepts, and they always look very cool! Such as bat villagers, or sharks/other fish related would be very cool! Maybe even having a concept contest and putting in some of the communities ideas would be lovely.
Would also love a farming concept, as I saw mentioned in this forum already. Maybe having another area of the town specifically dedicated to this, and where other trees, etc could be planted as well! Would just be similar to watering flowers, but every few days (depending upon the seed) you'd be able to harvest something. Would be cool too, if during some harvests you'd get different seeds that may be rarer.
Maybe even making the towns a bit bigger, or maybe later on being able to unlock a medium section where you can have additional villagers move to etc would be neat!

There's definitely a lot of potential, but I'm just hoping to see a new game soon!

Greenhouse or garden to grow items for our own Cafe. I would like to design my own Cafe and let villagers or new NPC work in it.
If dream suite continues let them visit the Cafe. No locking buildings.

Yes to the toolbox. Option for random or pick the villagers spot would make everyone happy.
I would like to pick the spot for the new villager, greet them at the train station and help them unpack.

Take a villager to the island for some fishing and island tours would be fun.
If they keep Club Tortimer I would like a larger island. One that is the same size as the diving tour.
Add some outside furniture in our towns and on the islands.

Fix the catalog so you can get items from it while your at home. Buy it once and you never have to buy it again.
I play extra towns on my 3DS and not sure how trading will work on the Switch. Pokemon Bank is the way trade pokemon to different games. I would love something like that in the next game. No way will I buy 2 switch to trade items or visit.

In no particular order, and I'm sure some of this has already been mentioned.

1. Being able to center furniture like in HHD/Pocket Camp
2. Don't make white the default skin color, let people choose their skin tone from a wide range of options from the start.
3. Separate pocket for tools, so they don't take up all my item space.
4. Let cedar trees grow all over the map, not just in the North.
5. Maybe more plants/fruits - You could have bushes that grow berries for example. That'd be kind of cool.
6. Let the town name be more than 8 characters long.
7. More activities (like hide-and-seek) to do with villagers.
8. I know this would probably never happen, but I think it would be cool if they let you select which holidays you want to celebrate. I'm not Christian, but my town celebrates Christian holidays like, Christmas, Easter, etc. I think it'd be cool if you could select certain holidays you want to celebrate in-game. Like Ramdan just ended, and it would have been cute if my animals were like "Eid Mubarak!" or if someone is Jewish, maybe a "Happy Hanukkah!" for example. But tbf I know these holidays they do choose to celebrate are seen as commercial holidays, rather than religious - especially in Japan. Still, it would be cool/more realistic experience that way for me. :p
9. See your side characters in their homes/walking around town when you're not playing them.
10. Make sloth, llama, owl, and hedgehog villagers!
11. Maybe a bicycle like they have in the pokemon games, to get around a little faster.
12. Have the option to hand an animal a gift directly/without being prompted/having to mail it, or actually be able to offer them food/drinks when they visit your house.
13. Allow all rocks to be removed/relocated
14. Be able to choose to saction off specific areas where you allow villagers to move in, so littering your town with paths is unneeded.
15. More mini-games, like working at Brewsters (Maybe one at like Club LOL would be cool.)
16. See friendship levels with villagers.
17. Allow us to give make-overs to our villagers whenever we want, so we don't have to tolerate ugly clothes.
18. Allow us to offer to re-do their interior design, like in HHD, if we don't like what they've done with their place.
19. I know this is kind of random, but I think it'd be cool to be able to place a bridge over a pond.
20. Instead of how we currently place PWP, let it be like a bigger version of placing furniture in a room.

More tree types. Really all we have right now are generic trees, cedars, and palm trees, with the fruit trees using the generic tree template and the palms. And the trees should be bigger, too

I'm planning to have an all cat village, and was disappointed to find that there are no cats with the smug personality. I think it would be great if every species had at least one of each personality type. So I guess, in a nutshell, I would like to be more villagers than what there are now.
