What do you put behind your buildings?

I ask because I'm starting to Terra form and move things around, but I don't like having that blind spot behind buildings that can hide fossil spots or, perhaps more importantly, scorpions and tarantulas!

At first I thought flowers, then realized that would just help those buggers sneak up on me.

Then I thought fences, but that doesn't always look right, though I've seen a lot of islands where the villagers houses had fences around the back of the house and a little yard, which looks lovely, but wouldn't really work with the museum or shops.

I've also considered cliffs / waterfalls, but having them behind every building would be a bit much.

I just put my museum at the very back / north of my island, but I don't want to so that with all the buildings, and couldn't with the resident service building even if I wanted to.

I'd love to hear what other people have done or if you haven't even considered this an issue.

Not all, but many of the buildings on my island are right up against some cliffs. Because of the camera, you can't really see much behind them anyway. My museum will eventually be at the very back/north of my island in the center, like you mentioned that you want to do with yours.

The main exception to this is my Resident Services. Behind it and a little to the left is a little playground area. I'm not sure if I'll keep that area there longterm on not, because I'm not a fan of it. If I take away the playground, I'm thinking about putting a little flower garden there instead. It's an area that isn't part of the main walking spots, so it won't be in the way.

I hated the idea of having things spawn behind buildings that I couldn't see... so I made my shopping district 2 floors. Lol
Some stuff on main level have the stairs to next level tucked behind a building then there is cliff behind those or rest of buildings for 2nd floor.
For the ones on the second floor, i have fences directly behind them (for the look cuz it surrounds the top level) to add a lil more buffer of space. Behind one have a river and waterfall accent (visible from 2nd floor and looks nice on the main floor behind so works well) and the other side has some cedar trees... just so when I put things behind the cedar trees it will look nice on the main level but from the 2nd level, you just see the tree tops.

Lots of mine are in front of cliffs, and I like it that way. Don't love the idea of having areas I can't even see because buildings are in the way!

My shops have a river behind them and my museum is against a cliff with waterfalls behind it.

I do a mixture of things but I try not to put anything that needs to be displayed behind building haha. I think fences are the best for me, personally.

I have my shopping district against the back of my island. For my villagers neighboorhood, the back most houses have cliffs behind them and the ones closer to the front just have paths behind them.

my downtown area is set up like a city so I just put sidewalk behind my first row of buildings. and most of my houses are backed by cliffs or fences

i was gonna use fences to section off my buildings! i think having empty space behind just feels too unnatural, and i want to create the feeling of an actual town that people live in!

I don't have anything behind my stores or resident services but nothing's ever spawned there (fossils or gold spot or anything). Is that even possible?
I once hid an oarfish behind nook's while I waited for CJ but it was still just visible and sometimes villagers stopped and stared at it!
