I usually don't like having a neighbor next to my house for landscaping ideas but if one did move there it would have to be a wolf or deer or a dreamie. Right now in Fandom, Genji is like a few placed down from my door, but it is enough space away for me and I love Genji so he got to stay.

If the game actually let me have a choice, I would make an effort to have at least one of each personality in my town, sometimes two. After that, it would come down to which individual villagers I liked based on both species and appearances.

I look for looks and personality. I also like a nice interior, sometimes I actually boot out villagers that have nasty interiors ^^; I also look a bit at species, i prefer deer, rabbits, cats, and squirrels.

I tend to enjoy those species’ looks as well. I think most of those neighbors have nice character designs, haha.

Same. I have Weber right next to one of my characters’ house. He has a nice home exterior, so I just leave it. I might go on eBay and try to find a neighbor I like; usually the deer neighbors have not only great looks, but nice houses.

Update: Wow, y’all seem to love the 4th option. That’s so interesting. Keep up the voting and comments. (^ν^)

Love the deers :3. Sheeps are adorable, but I only have one in my second town. :|

I would say the looks, since I don't care so much for the personality and what kind of house a
villager has. I try sometimes to have not so many villagers of the species type to have some
variety in the town, but I don't have a problem at all when I have two cats for example. After
all, I just take the villagers I like.

I can agree with that. I definitely enjoy having varied neighbor species in my town. I think I have quite a few couplets in Komorebi though (two bunnies, two deer, two goats, one bear cub, one monkey, and one duck). My other town has much more variety.

usually, the villager's looks are super important to me (so, no hippeux please) and i really prefer wolf villagers over all others. also, if their house exterior doesn't fit my town's theme, i wouldn't want them in my town. for example, a lot of my favourite villagers have blue house exteriors, so i won't take them into my town for that reason.

I voted the look because that also kind of includes species, and although personality is important as I like to have a balance, I want my favourites from each personality, which is partially based on looks but also previous experiences I've had with them (which is possibly tied up there for looks, at least for my ultimate favourites, while the middle ones are more just looks). I don't really care about house exterior that much; I just deal with it if I get one that's kind of ugly but most of my favourites have nice-looking houses anyway.

I mostly do the look of the villager or the house exterior. Each New Leaf Town I have is all themed, so my first town is Japanese themed, so the more Japanese the exterior and the character looked the more I wanted to have them in my village. My second town is going to be country themed, so the exterior, interior and look of the villager matters for that as well. Everything has to fit the theme or else I don't want the villager in the town.

I picked option 4 but really I think of all the options as a whole before I decide to keep a villager. I like to have all the personalities to keep them from getting too repetitive and I like to have some of each of my favorite species. House exterior as well since I like to work them into my landscaping!

Definitely looks. I really don't care about personality or house exterior because the important thing is whether I like the villager or not.

Personality! I love lazy, grumpy, grouchy, smug, and jock. If you're one of those, then I'll love you!!!

But I hate the Snootys, and the Uchis/Peppies are annoying lol.

Usually looks or if I'm looking for specific personality. I don't mind the exteriors since you usually don't have control over them but I'm pretty strict about keeping their interiors and furniture intact.

Completely agree on the theme belief. I have autumn and spring forest towns, so I try to go for more natural looking exteriors. I tend to like most neighbors, so looks don?t necessarily bother me, haha. Species I understand with the theme as well. Obviously for the country theme, you might want cow / duck neighbors or something. Ultimately, I?d say I look at species second after the exterior.

Yes I competently agree, I definitely try to see what theme they have going on in their house to see if they do in fact have the theme I want to pursue or I look at how the character looks and if they LOOk like the theme I want to pursue. then I really harp on the look of the character . After that I really go for the exterior of the house, because sometimes they do look different from the theme inside the house.
For my country theme I have a range of species, but their house exterior and interior SCREAM rural living. Ava I know is one of them and she has a nice country kitchen. Patty is also another one, her exterior and interior are quite farmish. Jambette is a surprising one, she has a nice country theme within her house and corky exterior. But She definitely has a country flare to add to the town, plus I just like her design haha. Alli is also one, I have her kind of set up to be the Country fashion designer, considering her house is mostly clothing items.

For me it's mostly looks which quite often takes into account species. Personality doesn't matter too much as once I get to know the villager it'll be cool. House exterior means nothing to me as it's just the animal expressing their personality

For me, it's a combination of all factors taken into consideration, of course. If I really love a villager with a crappy exterior or interior I will still invite them to my town. The interior can be modified and if the exterior is ugly I find that I eventually come to be okay with because I identify it with the villager I am close to.

I get that. I have Francine (whom I’ve grown to love), but her house exterior has a lot of blue accents, which doesn’t go with my autumn theme at all, haha. I just can’t seem to part with her and her home is still very pretty despite the color.

Exactly! Hahah you get me
Rolf's house is like one of those brick style ones which I usually lie but the brick are blue and (brace yourself) orange! *gasp*
I would say orange is my least favorite color but Rolf ain't going nowhere bc I love his look for my town and he's literally never done one annoying thing. He's darling :lemon:
