What do you like or dislike about today's ingame Halloween event?

This was my favorite Animal Crossing Halloween event. It was extremely generous with candy, and I was happy to receive Jack's face and robe along with a few rare DIYs.

The entire night was set up perfectly. I loved the classic music, costumes, reactions, and decorations around resident services. I'm a bit sad I have to take down all my Halloween stuff today. 😭

One thing I would have liked to see would be little treat bags. As villagers are able to hold other items, everyone walking around with a bag for their goodies would be adorable. Having Isabelle/Tom Nook join the festivities outside with an additional activity (e.g.: cardboard standees for photos, extra 'party' favors like glow sticks) would add to the fun too.

I did end up receiving a bunch of duplicates and thought it'd be nice to limit them, but that's part of the fun in a way.

For the most part, I really enjoyed it! I loved the atmosphere of the game: I started playing when it was already dark, plus the spooky music, getting to see all my villagers in their costumes and using their new emotions was super cute.

I love how it was easy, too. I just ran around and gave them candy until they stopped giving me new things (I have *so* many Spooky Placemats or whatever they’re called though lol) and then ran around seeing what face paint they’d give me.

I think my only real gripe with how Halloween was handled is the way the furniture was distributed? I’m not all that bothered by the spooky carriage, wand, and Jack’s costume only be obtainable on Halloween but I would’ve really liked to be able to have a spooky room set in my house all October.

In New Leaf I loved collecting the Spooky Set and making my main room Spooky themed to get into the mood. In that respect I’m not in love with how New Horizons did things. I had to look up the furniture for New Horizons and I’m shocked we didn’t get a full set? I thought we’d get a bed, couch, smaller table, wardrobe, etc. Unless I’m mistaken and just missed out on a bunch of furniture lol. But all I got was the floor, rug, wall, and garland and the only “indoorsy” spooky furniture Nookling sold all month was a table and chair.

I did love decorating the outside of my town I just wished I’d gotten more furniture for in my house, too!

I really enjoyed the event! 😊 More analysis below.

Likes:
  • The villagers were so adorable in their costumes, which seemed to be related to their species, and when they would chase you down to trick-or-treat with you.
  • We had to option to prepare in advance for the whole month of October, but all the spooky recipes and candy were still all obtainable on the night of the event.
  • The pranks were really fun! I kept asking for tricks to get cool face markings. xD
  • The music and atmosphere around the island... I absolutely adored the fog and purple-y sky.
  • Jack and three villagers hung around the Residential Services plaza almost all the time. This was a big time-saver.
Areas for improvement:
  • Would have been nice to also get recipes for the Spooky Table Setting, Rug, Flooring, and Wall. I like consistency, goshdarnit.
  • I wish we could have gotten duplicate recipes of the Carriage and Wand. One of my IRL friends isn't getting the game until Christmas, so I had gotten her duplicates of all the Spooky recipes except for those two.
There was/is a DIY for the Spooky Placemat, you may have missed it.

It was only the wall, rug, and floor that didnt have DIYs.

As for my own thoughts...I wish there had been more to it. I liked scaring your villagers in previous games. Makes me worried about Toy Day being boring too...

I also miss the creepy set, although IMO I actually like the spooky set now, so that's an improvement.

Overall a cute event, but kind of a letdown.

You're right -- for some reason, I thought there were four Spooky items without recipes. 😅

I loved the villagers costumes and their spooky faces. It was so cute watching them try to scare each other. I wish that Isabelle had been involved more in the event, and that I didn’t get 5 duplicates of Jack’s robe. I also wish that we had got the spooky carriage and table settings sooner than on Halloween day. But overall I liked the event. One other thing is I wish the entire event wasn’t essentially over in 10 min.

I liked the setup of the trick-or-treating. I like the trick they played on you if you did not get them candy. I wish that was a look that could be kept... mine is so cute (green body paint with a pumpkin and a bat face painting)... I'm assuming when I remove it, there will be no way to get it back? I really liked the items they gave out... very cute.

I wish the villagers actually wore good costumes (I only saw one wear something neat). I'm not into devil horns and that's all they were wearing. There are so many cute costumes they could have been wearing to make it more interesting. Also, as cute as the items that were given out were, I don't see the point of giving out all the spooky items on Halloween night instead of letting them be used for the month of October. Who wants to decorate for Halloween once it's over?

The body paint is year round, and I'm pretty sure there are fan re-creations of the pumpkin and bat face painting. Enjoy!

overall i have to say that out of all the holidays we've experienced so far, Halloween is definitely my favorite. but there are some things i wish were different about the event. i still enjoyed this event and will probably participate in it every year bc i dont like doing Halloween things irl and the villagers were just so cute.

  • - the lighting/weather/atmosphere/?? was very pretty. im a fan of purple, so i felt really seen during the event. 10/10 wish id have this type of ??? all the time on my island. i wonder, if u save a dream address during this time if it'll also experience that atmosphere thing with the purple u know? if u can, yall better watch out man. it'll be the only time of the year i save a dream address.
    - the villagers were all very cute in their costumes, and seeing them scare each other in the plaza was nice. the villagers interactions were all good, even the interactions with the villagers in their house
    - i loved the music. it was very iconic. whenever i think of Halloween i'll definitely think of the acnh music for it.
    - all the costumes were really cute, and im actually kind of surprised they added devil horns for some reason?? ig they were on hats in previous games but, im rly not complaining. i do wish we had things like fairy wings tho

  • - i wish there were just more furniture for the spooky set in general. most of the items we got are for outdoor decorations/decorations. like, the table and chair just felt kinda slapdash additions to me because they were the only "real" furniture in the entire set. like if we had gotten a bed, a dresser, a closet, and perhaps some other more indoor furniture-type items, i'd probably actually use the table and chair. but as it stands, im only really using the lanterns, the tower, and the scarecrow, and it's only being used outside.
    - i think because there wasnt as much furniture, it felt like the event ended really soon. ig i could have technically kept going to get duplicates, but after i had gotten one of everything i just logged off for the night bc i didnt really see a reason to. i could just craft everything i wanted now. i definitely didnt use all the candy i had bought. maybe if the rewards from giving candy included some costume pieces and bells and such the event would have gone on longer for me, but i may have also gotten annoyed bc i rly only did the event for the recipes in the first place.
    - i wish the tricks/pranks were actually more impactful. it's funny to have ur face or skin tone changed, but there really wasn't a reason to not offer candy. in fact, if u didnt even want to give candy u could just ignore the villager, which i wish wasn't the case. but i understand this was probably done to fit the more positive atmosphere this game has, bc tricking ppl's mean!! don't do it im actually not being sarcastic dont trick ppl man.
    - i wish we could have the Halloween theme as a song to listen to on radios u know? this is the biggest tragedy of this holiday imo. i would probably listen to it more than i listen to K.K. Cruisin'
edit: my format was all messed up in the spoilers. sry if it's hard to read i just dont have enough braincells to actually fix the problem instead of slapping a bandaid on it.

I liked the clothes that Jack gave us but I didn’t really like the tricks the villagers played on you. In new leaf you got cool furniture but in this game they just changed your skin and face and eyes.

I really liked the event but I really wish we could get more Jack-specific items, kind of like the Bug items we can only get from Flick during the Bug Off.

It was super cute! I loved seeing all my villagers in their cute costumes and seeing them use the new reactions.

I guess my complaint is I "finished" Halloween in like 10mins lol.

I had intended to do the event early, but I instead opted to watch horror movies in the lead-up to Halloween because I enjoy watching horror movies throughout October and this year it felt like October zoomed past us. As such, I haven't actually gotten around to it yet, but I will do so more than likely sometime in the coming days.

I will say though, that from the outside looking in it seems less interesting than New Leaf. I liked getting all of the patchwork clothes, pumpkin heads, and the Jack-in-the-Box back in New Leaf, so it seems like face paint as a trick is comparatively bland. Additionally, the decision to have the Spooky Garland and Spooky Table Setting as Halloween-day exclusives instead of being acquired like the rest of the Spooky items feels like an arbitrary decision. I can sort of understand that being the case with the Spooky Carriage and Spooky Wand, but even still, I think a better solution would have been for all of the Spooky items (sans maybe the Wand) to have been accessible throughout the month, and then there would be a whole new furniture set on Halloween day itself like how New Leaf had the Creepy series.

I also think that it feels a bit pointless to receive the Spooky Wallpaper, Spooky Flooring, and Spooky Rug on Halloween itself. I love how they look, but wouldn't it make more sense to have them on display throughout the year? There's next year of course, but I imagine for most people, they just ended up straight in storage on or after November 1st.

I'm hoping that in future updates in the coming years that we might see the return of, alongside most or all of the older games' furniture sets, the previous Spooky series of furniture for Halloween. Here's an image of it for those unfamiliar.

I can't speak to anything else because I haven't experienced it firsthand yet, but those are my impressions.

L I K E S:

First, I loved the music! I don't remember ever celebrating Halloween in past AC games because I usually don't play them for Halloween and either go out or spend the night watching scary movies. I heard it for the first time and it was an instant like for me! So I have it in my playlist now. 😅

I like that everyone is dressed up and in character for Halloween

D I S L I K E S:

Not that much to do aside from getting 3 DIYs and hoarding candy. They could've done more, maybe have a ghost haunt the island at midnight and you can help dispell it for a reward, maybe hear a scary backstory from it.

Jack standing idle in the Plaza. Maybe have him walk around and spook villagers with the haunt emote.

That's about it. It was more enjoyable than bunny day, at least, because I could still hunt for rare fish and not have to reel in eggs instead.
