I had intended to do the event early, but I instead opted to watch horror movies in the lead-up to Halloween because I enjoy watching horror movies throughout October and this year it felt like October zoomed past us. As such, I haven't actually gotten around to it yet, but I will do so more than likely sometime in the coming days.
I will say though, that from the outside looking in it seems less interesting than New Leaf. I liked getting all of the patchwork clothes, pumpkin heads, and the Jack-in-the-Box back in New Leaf, so it seems like face paint as a trick is comparatively bland. Additionally, the decision to have the Spooky Garland and Spooky Table Setting as Halloween-day exclusives instead of being acquired like the rest of the Spooky items feels like an arbitrary decision. I can
sort of understand that being the case with the Spooky Carriage and Spooky Wand, but even still, I think a better solution would have been for all of the Spooky items (sans maybe the Wand) to have been accessible throughout the month, and then there would be a whole new furniture set on Halloween day itself like how New Leaf had the Creepy series.
I also think that it feels a bit pointless to receive the Spooky Wallpaper, Spooky Flooring, and Spooky Rug on Halloween itself. I love how they look, but wouldn't it make more sense to have them on display throughout the year? There's next year of course, but I imagine for most people, they just ended up straight in storage on or after November 1st.
I'm hoping that in future updates in the coming years that we might see the return of, alongside most or all of the older games' furniture sets, the previous Spooky series of furniture for Halloween. Here's an image of it for those unfamiliar.
I can't speak to anything else because I haven't experienced it firsthand yet, but those are my impressions.
