What are the wildest bits of misinformation you've seen?

With the game out for three months now, I thought it would be funny to go over the wildest rumors and bits of misinformation we've seen floating about.

For me the best ones that come to mind would be

1. Clapping at the dodo until he blushes at airport increases your chances of getting a rare Nook miles island. I remember this rumor ran rampant in the first month or so of the game. I still sometimes see it pop up to this day! It even got debunked by datamining due to how popular it was.

2. Nook Miles Island villagers have a rarity assigned to them and all the popular villagers are rarer to get than the others. I think this one mainly circulated in the twitch and youtube streams of people who hunted villagers. People were convinced Raymond and Judy were coded with rarer chances of showing up, when in reality they aren't any more or less rare than other cats or cubs.

What are some of the most memorable rumors or wild bits of misinformation you guys have seen in these three months?​

I had never heard of your second one. But it makes sense some people would think that.

Before I clicked on your thread, I instantly thought about the clapping at Orville thing. I wish this rumor would go away. It's really dumb. Another rumor that I wish would go away is that being mean to your villagers makes them more likely to ask them to move. It does not. It DOES seem like villagers that have lower friendship with you are more likely to ask, but being mean doesn't lower friendship. Just ignore them, don't do favors for them, and don't give them presents. You don't need to hit them with nets.

I don't see the second one stated that clearly basically ever, people just say "rare villagers" even though that name is for sure a bit of a misnomer. Plus if you look around at people's island lineups perhaps common villagers would be a better word......

The first thing that came to mind is from that one person who just made a false alarm for attention. It went something like if you were to buy a few bushes from Leif or something like that, your entire Switch system gets bricked. Thanks to reverse lookup of the image, this has been proved false as that image was taken from somewhere else just to cause drama. I hate it when people cause fearmongering.

I think my biggest thing is just people spreading that Celeste is fully random and has nothing to do with stars that night??

Like that’s her whole purpose she’s a star baby she was born of the stars it is WHO SHE IS, if she’s in your town it means you’ll have at least some stray stars before 5am guys. She IS random, as in she gets randomly assigned to which starry nights she shows up to, but she isn’t truly random.

The first one you posted was mine as well! I was wearing their merchandise from head to toe, blushing , clapping at them, complementing them, using the love emotion. Anything to get their attention, but nothing worked. None of it worked lol

Someone on this very forum saying that you could store Leif's bushes in your home storage - to which I thought 'Oh, cool!' and proceeded to stock up... before realising that you can't store them at home.

There was a rumor floating around for a short period of time that you were guaranteed to get three 99k bags from a money tree on specific days and you could find a "pattern" of successful days for your island so you know which days to bury 99k in the glowing hole. This was debunked through data mining which showed that you have a flat 30% chance of getting three 99k bags if you bury 99k and there is no way to tell if the money tree will be successful until you harvest the bell bags from the tree.
