Is it just me, or do more hybrids grow without fertilizer? Seriously, I used to breed them just fine, I'd easily get 3-4 hybrids every day without trying very hard, sometimes even more. I didn't even use the checkerboard pattern then, I just put then in 2x3 rows.

Ever since I've been trying to use fertilizer, I'd be lucky to get 1 or 2 hybrids, and only the flowers around the planted fertilizer would grow an extra flower nearby. Maybe.

Just now, for example, I planted some fertilizer near my blue roses, one bag near the purple roses, another bag by some red and white cosmos and another bag near some black roses. Only one pink cosmos showed up the next day, no new roses showed up at all. I do the checkerboard placement too, and I plant fertilizer in the middle of flowers.

To be clear, all you have to do is bury fertilizer to "use" it, right? Does it matter if you bury it before or after you water the flowers?

Thanks! :)

I have the same problem. Tbh, I'm only buying fertilizer to get the golden shovel at this point. I have yet to see it produce results.

Yeah, guess it's just bad luck. Dammit Leif, what kind of happy fertilizer are you selling mee

Oh right, totally forgot that's how you get the golden shovel. Guess it hasn't been a complete waste of time and bells lol.

I found this aswell, though I think it might have better results if you have no flowers in your town other than the ones you're trying to breed. My flower filled town has never gotten a hybrid out of using fertilizer - tried about 15 times and then took to just selling the fertilizer back. But my alt town got like 1 every 3 or 4 tries. ~ I think it's a waste of money really considering no flowers sell for the 3200 the fertilizer costs and TTing a day and getting a few hybrids is quicker than actually going to the shop and buying the fertilizer which might not get 1.

As far as I know all you have to do is bury it next to one of the flowers you're breeding. But, I guess if it doesn't work than it's only really worth it for the golden shovel :) I better start buying that and saplings on a regular basis...

I had this problem for a while and I'm not 100% sure on this but have you just tried planting 1 bag a day?
I noticed that when I did multiple bags it didn't do anything, but if I plant just one I can usually get 4-5 of the desired hybrid.
I haven't really tested it though so I could be very wrong.

Yes, only doing 1 bag a day is the way to go. I've done 2 in a day - both near my pink carnations - and only get 1 new one. But if I do 1 bag and water the other flowers I want to breed, I'll get one by the fertlizier and others as well.

Also, I've found in my town that fertilizer doesn't work on some flowers. I have better luck getting orange lillies, blue violets and pink lilies with just using water.

Fertilizer works best (for me) on the blue roses, purple pansies and purple tulips. No matter what, I always got a new hybrid - and sometimes two with fertilizer.

1.) You can only bury one bag per day.

2.) Fertilizer only guarantees the flowers will breed, it doesn't guarantee it will be a hybrid

3.) Still water the flowers you plant it by

4.) You can water as many other flowers in your town for a hybrid and the fertilizer will still guarantee a new flower will spawn by where you buried it.

A Golden shovel helps increase the chance of it being a hybrid

for me it worked best when i buried the fertilizer in the middle of the flowers. like this:
xxx
x0x
xxx
(x being a flower, 0 being the fertilizer)

i could be hallucinating, though.

It doesn't matter where it's buried as long as it's next to a flower that's next to another flower.

I've been burying a fertilizer by my orange pansies every day, but it's been 50-50 whether I'll see any new flower from them, hybrid or not. I'm wondering whether they're randomly choosing a spawn point on the path tiles nearby and not an actual free grassy spot, thus preventing a flower from being generated.

I used fertilizer to get one of my orange trees to spawn a perfect orange. It look several weeks though... Don't know much about how it affects flowers, sorry.

when you get the golden shovel, the chances increase if you bury it with that shovel. or so i read.

I skipped the fertilizer today, and the result: orange tulip, black tulip, purple rose and pink cosmos.

I do believe in the one bag a day thing, I'll stick to that next time I try the fertilizer. Water-only still seems to work best for me. :p I'll keep buying 'em for that golden shovel though.
