Is it just me, or do more hybrids grow without fertilizer? Seriously, I used to breed them just fine, I'd easily get 3-4 hybrids every day without trying very hard, sometimes even more. I didn't even use the checkerboard pattern then, I just put then in 2x3 rows.
Ever since I've been trying to use fertilizer, I'd be lucky to get 1 or 2 hybrids, and only the flowers around the planted fertilizer would grow an extra flower nearby. Maybe.
Just now, for example, I planted some fertilizer near my blue roses, one bag near the purple roses, another bag by some red and white cosmos and another bag near some black roses. Only one pink cosmos showed up the next day, no new roses showed up at all. I do the checkerboard placement too, and I plant fertilizer in the middle of flowers.
To be clear, all you have to do is bury fertilizer to "use" it, right? Does it matter if you bury it before or after you water the flowers?
Thanks!
