Villager tier is inaccurate

Why do you think it's inaccurate? Are the villagers that you mentioned popular in the Villager Trading Plaza? Are there a lot of people looking for them, or maybe threads that offer to sell them have a lot of people interested in it? If so, you can reply to that thread if you noticed those villagers have been popular. It would certainly help the list to be more accurate :)

The list isn't really a most-liked list, iirc, but based on how those villagers do in the VTP board. For example, Kiki was really popular last Halloween. A lot of people were looking for her and threads involving her had a lot of response. A few people pointed it out and as a result, Kiki got up really high in the tier list. Basically, the list helps you point out how well they are in trading. They higher they are, the more likely that you'll find a buyer who will pay a lot of them. It's not saying that the lowered tier ones are worthless, just that they don't do well in trades and it takes a long time to find a buyer/taker for them.

TLDR the list is to help people determine which villager would sell a lot on VTP. I'd like to add that it's based on trades happening in TBT only, not including reddit, gamefaqs, tumblr, etc.

The one thing that bothers me about the villager tier system is that Caroline is considered Trash Tier. I don't hate any of the Tier One villagers (including Lolly and Rosie), but I don't think Caroline deserves to be Trash Tier. Is she one of the most hated villagers? Or is she just not as popular?

What's even worse is that some people trash talk or blacklist people with towns that have even one Tier 5 villager. They say that the dream town is "terribly designed" if there's even one Tier 5 villager. I don't care which villagers live in what town. But I really don't think towns should be judged solely on the villagers as I don't think Caroline deserves a spot in the Tier 5 list.

I think tier 5 is a little too broad because some tier 5 villagers are definitely more popular than others in the same tier, but other than that I don't see much problem with the list.

I just don't really get why Marshal is number one at the moment.

Not all tier 5 villagers are hated, they just don't have much demand. :L
I do think that there should be another tier for the villagers that are truly hated, though. There are some villagers that don't have the demand to move up, but still get picked up often.

People who call it "trash tier" I ignore. Not only is it mean, but they assume that just because they're not popular, they can't be loved/asked for. It's pretty immature if you ask me.

"I like Ali.
No one else likes Ali.
But because I like Ali, Ali should be top tier!"

"Marshal is popular.
No one likes Charlise except me.
Marshal sucks. Marshal should be third tier!"

Of course the list isn't 100% but it's still a good reference to when you are trying to sell villagers.

Exactly.

Seems more like an estimate to me. Ankha is okay to me, I had her in my Japanese town earlier this year, but I wouldn't put her in my top 10 (obviously since she's not there anymore), but still an estimate. I wouldn't call that list set in stone, there's some flexibility, because some may not have one on the list, and change their mind about that one once they get them.

Tiers just confuse everything
I mean, next there'll be a List of Pokemon based on popularity

I think people should just pay whatever they think is accurate for things they want and not follow a bias guide created by a small group of people.

If that was a thing
Magikarp sure as hell better be on top.

But I really don't pay attention to this list. I usually just give villagers away for free. However, a lot of the villagers in tier one should be there, imo.

Well yeah, whilst a lot of people don't agree with it, it's not like the guy who does it is in a poor position to do so either, you know? I mean he's a mod on an AC Reddit thing too, so personally, I trust his estimations. But then most of the arguments against the tier are based on personal opinion, whereas the tier list is based on statistics :)

What is that gyroid omg

I made a point about this in that thread themselves. The problem is that the author, who does do a great job organizing things for us, bases it too much on transactions like “looking for”, when that might not be the best indicator as people don’t post looking for threads for villagers they can’t afford, most people don’t have 20-50 million bells to sling around.

As a real life example, you and really most people will probably go out looking for a mid tier TV that has a good price/performance value. That doesn’t mean those TVs are the “Top Tier”… you’d still rather have the 8,000$ OLED TVs, but you know you can’t afford them. Even though less people look for and get higher class models doesn’t at all mean they still aren’t the top tier.

I think the best indicator of popularity is how quickly a villager moves. I’ve done a lot of villager sales with my cycle town and some of the villagers in “Tier 1” just don’t move when you put them up. I’ve had Chief up multiple times for auction with a low starting price and reasonable buyout, no one really wanted to take him. Meanwhile people were climbing over themselves to get Lucky when he shows up.

For me villagers that move instantly no matter the buyout are Merengue, Marshal, Stitches, Julian, Ankah.

The only thing that bothers me is most people will only give away or sell the higher tier villagers.I am kind of guilty of this too.I guess i assume that no one will want some of my lower tiered villagers. It makes it very hard to get some of these awesome villagers that are at the lower end of the list.Thank goodness for the lovely people that have cycling towns. If it wasn't for them, it would be even more difficult.

I have noticed that most of the hamsters are tier 5. They seem to get adopted fairly quickly too. I see them in a lot of peoples towns and dreamie lists as well.

Just because you don't think they should be there doesn't mean it's inaccurate. lol

It's a thread and the OP is pretty touchy when it comes to that thread so he probably won't change how he does anything.

I think the thing that is wrong with the whole tiers thing is that it is very ambiguous. Because a villager that one person might find to be very cool, is disgusting to another.
Also trends in what villagers are popular change over time, so 2nd tier villager could absolutely become first tier if given the time and exposure. So I mean, if the tier system changed more with popular trends, instead of reinforcing old ones, then maybe it would be a system that works. Also a villager that is popular somewhere (like on tumblr where villagers like Sprinkle are much more popular than on here) will not be as popular in another environment. So...

No offence but you're just one member in the tbt community, and the tier list is about popularity, not anyone's, including your opinions?

Am I the only one that thinks that the villager tier is innacurate?
http://www.belltreeforums.com/showthread.php?109343-List-of-Villagers-Based-on-Popularity
And I think it's the one that everyone uses.

I don't think that Chief, Rosie, Lucky, Fang & Ankha should be on the first tier.

As for tier 2, Apollo, Punchy, Wolfgang, Kabuki & others should be on there...

The inaccuracy of it just really bothers me.
I think that it is a little inaccurate for this update. I think that Bones and Walker should be at least tier fours.

Most of the cats like Lolly in my opinion should be a tier five if it wasn't for the popularity.
