I don't know what to do with my villager houses! I've rearranged them 5 times and every time I end up hating them!

I could use some inspiration - either your layout or a layout you really like! i need to stop spending every bell I have moving buildings!

I feel your pain. I have moved mine several times and still not happy with it. My latest layout has them all together in one area in two rows of 4, then two off to the side. I have redone my island and moved things around several times...it is expensive to change my mind lol

so glad it's not just me! i've probably spent millions of bells moving houses rip

I am just now starting to move some of my villager houses and make areas for them but I'd try to suggest to make little micro habitats for them, like with maple since she is a brown bear I am putting her in a foresty area with lots of trees, flowers, dirt paths and I put Judy on the top level of my island with a moon, star stuff (not done yet) but I plan to put more like space stuff and pink, purple, blue flowers around her.

I have mine set up like this

I wish it was wider but I did what I could with what space I had. Don’t mind the empty plot it’s for Raymond lol

Same! Between that and moving/changing bridges and inclines I am slowly going broke again!
i'm actually happy with my bridges and inclines! It's just housing layouts and yard sizes I'm struggling with!

It's still a work in progress, but I have this big spread of neighborhood that I like. The three houses on the lower level are pretty much done! and then my house will be to the right kind of by itself connecting the two areas, and then the level going up the right side of my island into the cliffs is more "woodsy". Since I don't tt, it's a process. (Dobie is in the top left by himself with his fishing hole hes a lone wolf)
If you want to come run around my neighborhoods and get a look just lmk! I tried to post pictures but they just weren't coming out.
I like the neighborhood business with decent sized yards bc I notice my villagers interact with the things I put in the yards way more than other stuff on my island (the cafe and pool are UNTOUCHED, but boy do they love erik's train set and audie's hammock)
The two houses on the actual beach need to be moved still as do the two that are kind of up to the right by themselves.

I got rid of one of my rivers so had to remove the bridges I put in, I am happy with the rest, although I did go with the cheapest to start out with and would like to upgrade but I don't want to shell out more bells :/

I love how you did the yard!

My villagers are scattered in different areas but I have 4 of them in a huge neighborhood. In my current setup, Zucker and Genji lives in Little Asia with all Asian themed stuff. Judy is in the highest part of the island where the celestial stuff are and the stargazing area since she’s my little nebula bear. Maple and Stitches share the forest with the heart lake and picnic area overlooking the campsite. Wolfgang, Fuchsia, Bluebear and Molly live in a huge neighborhood sharing a manicured flower garden in the middle. Lastly, Marshal lives with me in my three-tiered coastal / tropical compound near the secret beach since he’s the only one allowed near my house (it’s some sort of tradition with a backstory stemming from NL that I do in every single town / island I have).

Bumping this cause I still need inspiration!

I've moved everything to the beach and am completely starting from scratch!

when i do mine, when terraforming is complete, i plan to hopefully not put them all together but in mini neighborhoods

You could use some youtube videos for inspirations. There are some 5 star villages showcased there with different styles for living areas.

I myself have the villagers scattered around, but most on the lower side of the island. Often in sets of two, but bigger yards. I don't really like it and it takes up a lot of space. I'm still contemplating what to do with it.

here is what I did with mine (haven't figured out the whole image upload thing yet lmao). the ones higher up on the map behind the shops are all very close together so I gave them a kind of 'communal' area in front of their houses with a barbecue, a pond, a flower bed, picnic area etc. The ones along the beach to the right of the airport are also close together so they have some stuff on the beach + the ones to the left have a little swinging bench to share between them :)

Mine are scattered all around the island, some of them living closer together than others. I wanted to give them big yards and no fences so finding a symmetrical neighborhood layout that worked was pretty much impossible, plus I can't stand straight rivers.

Beau lives in a little opening in the mountains to the north, next to a lake and the campsite. Deirdre lives on the farm. Reneigh lives close to my entrance and next to the bridge that leads to Skye and Fang's forest, which leads to an incline where I have the fairy hill where Diana lives, which in turn leads to an opening where Julian and Ruby are. I have Marina and Sprinkle on the beach as they wouldn't fit anywhere else.

That's actually what I'm doing right now! Haven't found anything that I like yet, unfortunately.

I have gone for a village theme and so my villagers homes are how I decorate my island really. So they are spread out instead of the space saving neat blocks.

Here is my island map :

Ignore the multiple players tents on the beach, those are not permanent! They are for getting extra fish and bug models haha!

Here are some pictures of my plot layouts for so e villagers :

A more basic small style for Rowan. He isn't too bothered about decorating his yard he just wants a space to do jock stuff!

Another smaller style :

Ed is more concerned with his looks and interior than his garden haha

And here's some larger plots :

Goldie loves to relax in the sun and potter with her flowers!

And lastly a bit of overseas culture for this plot :

Pekoe has brought her homelands style to the island, she likes to meditate and relax in a familiar space! Sadly I couldn't fit her little meditation cushion in the picture, it's just a bit down the sandy path.

Hope this helps you 😊

i recommend using the 3d island planner here if you haven't already!! i started my island from scratch as well & it was super helpful playing around with where to put buildings, how much space to leave for yards, etc.

this was my house placement before and after (huge wip)

I organized my villagers into little neighborhoods! For now I have a forest neighborhood, a waterfront neighborhood, and a cute like. suburban neighborhood with a park, but may change them soon!

I’m having the same problem at the moment, trying to decide the layout of villagers homes. I think I’m going to have 2 or 3 in clusters of that makes sense. For example, I’m currently terraforming a small hill to put Wolfgang and Whitney on and they’re going to have a joint garden. Just not sure about anyone else yet!
