Yeah, I know what you mean. It can get a little repetitive if you have more than one of the same personality type in your town. But I guess because there are so many different neighbours, it would be hard to make unique personalities/dialogues for each neighbour. It would be awesome if that were possible, though!
Yes, I have noticed that characters do not have certain banks of dialogue specifically for themselves, but only for their specific personality types. Unfortunately, this means that instead of getting attached to a villager due to their personality, you end up only picking villagers based upon looks. I personally feel that the dialogue was more diverse in the Gamecube version, and thus it felt more fresh when you would speak amongst villagers.
Ugh, same. Every single day since Fauna has moved in she has asked me to rate her outfit... its the same shirt every time. I agree that the Game cube version seemed to have TONS more written dialog. I think maybe more work went into the hundreds of other new awesome features and the dialog writing budget got short sticked.
The worst was when I got two Uchis at about the same time while cycling. They were completely in sync. I'd walk by Rocket, then walk by Paula, and they'd say the exact same thing to me. I thought I'd go crazy before they left - though Rocket is still working on PWPs in my main town for me at the moment. I felt like Fuchsia and Cherry were similar to each other too - and yet different from Paula and Rocket. Maybe they were enough out of sync that I didn't notice the repetition, but it made me wonder if they at least had a couple subsets within a personality type.
That's one of the reasons I let Katt move away. She and Frita always said the same thing. They lived right next to each other and I often talked to them one after the other. They just repeated the same line quite often.
Yup it drives me mad too. Yesterday I was having a convo with Genji, and the three times I spoke to him, he said the EXACT same thing three times in a row about how his clothes looked. The same thing has happened with many other villagers, and I very rarely see any new dialogue at all nowadays. This is why I would never have more than 2 of any personality in town, them all saying the same stuff constantly would send me to the ACNL loony-bin!
I think people have been noticing this for a long time now. Villagers of the same personality have the same dialogue and it's kind of limited. It's annoying sometimes.
At the same time, I wonder if there are other variables because I've had repeats and while they've shared identical dialogue, sometimes they say things I haven't heard the other one say. It could just be a coincidence, though.

It's also kind of annoying that the game forces you to repeat personalities and to have one of each too. I don't mind getting 10 villagers instead of 8, and I wish we could have more, but it's starting to make me wary of repeating the personalities I love because I don't want to be bored when talking to the villagers I talk to every time I play, or the ones I hate because I don't want to be even more annoyed by them.
As awesome as it would be for each individual villager to have unique dialogue, it would be too much data I think for a small 3DS game. At least for over 300 villagers!
