So Henry, my amiibo villager whom I recently invited to live on my island, was crafting the Golden Armor but, at first, I didn't even notice.
He was holing the little hammer in his hand but not doing the animation of crafting which I find a bit weird. It's only when I talked to him that he told me he was crafting.
I even exited and re-entered his house several times and saved and rebooted the game and it was still the same - he was just standing by the workbench holding a hammer but not doing the crafting motion.
Did anyone else see this before? Is it some kind of a glitch?
I'm a little concerned now.

Okay, now I'm getting concerned because he's still holding that hammer and it's past midnight here already. :(

Shep does this in my town literally any time he’s crafting, maybe it has to do with the personality type? Both of them are smug. It’s never caused Shep to get stuck in that position though, he just is there for the normal amount of time that villagers are when they’re crafting. Idk if it’s actually a glitch or not, but I have seen this happen

Did he give you the recipe?
Yes, he did.

Okay, finally I talked to him to the point of him getting upset (we're still at a very low friendship level since he literally moved in 2 days ago so I figured it wouldn't hurt).
I then saved and quit the game, reloaded it and now he's working out in his house.
I just hope he's going to be okay,

I've had it happen the other way around they're crafting into the air with no workbench.

Oh, I see. I wonder if it could be.
I guess because he seemed to be stuck in limbo for some time that I started getting worried.
But now it seems okay again.

I've had the same glitch, and i think it was Henry for me too. I entered his house, he was holding a hammer but not doing the animation, and then he gave me the DIY when I talked to him. It only happened that one time, but Henry isn't in my town anymore. I got him myself via island hopping, so I don't think it's an amiibo issue

Has it had any negative effects other than the animation glitch?

Oh, that's interesting. Well, someone else said that Shep was doing the same.
I had Zell before but don't remember him doing it but then I wasn't really into Zell so didn't bother checking up on him multiple times.

That’s good that he seems back to normal now! It’s odd that he did it for so long for you, I don’t think Shep has ever done it nearly that long in mine, and I’ve had him for a while now. He was my first camper, if that would mean anything?

Anyway he’s never had any actual problems from this, and gives me the recipes like normal. It just kinda looks weird that he just stands there with the hammer. I thought it was maybe cuz his DIY bench is kind of shoved to the side and it might have been difficult for him to stand in the right place cuz of the position of his bed, but if a completely different villager with a completely different house is having the same issue it must be something else.

Would be interesting to hear if this has happened with any other personality types, or only smug?

Yes, I want to know this too.
Henry is the first amiibo villager I moved in so I was worried something might have gotten messed up because of all the amiibo glitches that were reported in the past (I know they are not related to this but for a second I was like what.. a new glitch?). Hopefully, it's just something minor to do with the animation.
Zell was my first camper and I don't remember him doing it though.

i’ve noticed that shep has this glitch - nobody else will craft without the animation except for him ;w;

The only time I've personally seen anything like this is the other day I visited someone to get a DIY from a villager that was crafting. The villager had just stopped crafting (would not give DIYs anymore) but was still holding the hammer. It didn't seem like a glitch though. It just seemed like the villager just stopped.

I saw other posters say they had something similar happen with Shep! I think it has to do with the layout of their furniture. Maybe there is something that is a little on the way and is preventing them from doing the crafting animation.

Interesting! I have this glitch with Henry, who I also got via amiibo. Lately whenever I walk in his house while he’s crafting, he stands totally still with his hammer until I speak with him. He then gives his usual DIY dialogue, hands me the recipe card, and then when the conversation is over, he actually starts doing the hammering animation he’s meant to be doing. Everything seems ok afterward.

This is one of two little recurring glitches in my game that don’t seem too serious or to affect anything else. The other is seeing the wrong villager’s clothing in the wrong villager’s wardrobe.

I'm glad to know that it's not serious though.
Today, Henry fell sick though.
I wonder if it's because I talked to him so much last night to the point of making him ill. lol...

i saw this happen in a friend's town yesterday! i took a video at the time, just in case. it was with ursala, so an uchi. she still gave out her recipe like usual, thankfully. but my friend says this only happens with ursala in her town.

I saw something similar happen to Mac, but he wasn't crafting - he was having a thought bubble.

Except the thought bubble wasn't there and he was standing still rather than walking around, I watched him for a little while because he was doing the thinking animation but had no bubble or little text boxes or anything, I decided to talk to him to see what he was doing and he asked me if I wanted to change my nickname which is something that they're supposed to have a thought bubble for...
