I delivered a package to Rory (it was accidentally shipped to Cheri. Ugh, shipping services these days) and in return... he gave me an orange, which is my sister fruit.
I already had oranges because I used local play to deliver them from my old island (along with all of the other fruits, so I could have an orchard). I'm still in early-game mode (in fact, resident services is under construction today...)

Anyway, this just sorta took me by surprise, because NONE of my villagers, in all 8 months of playing this game, have EVER given me anything except furniture or clothes as a thank-you gift.... (though it was always mostly clothes. Have you noticed that villagers seem to just have a plethora of clothes? Like, good God, where the heck did you FIND this stuff???). I know this was a thing in New Leaf, though, because I've had it happen once or twice in New Leaf (which was quite helpful).

Has this ever happened to y'all? It's probably fairly new, tho...

I also received fruit as thanks after doing two deliveries on the same day -- about two weeks ago, if I'm remembering correctly. They were oranges, which are also my sister fruit. This took me aback, too, and my island has been around since the end of May/beginning of June.

i guess they're becoming less aggressive about implementing online-play, at least sort of ? Like I coulda gotten my own oranges from a mystery island, though sister fruit islands are pretty rare (i spent about 25 tickets and only found 2-3.) i wonder if it'll be possible for me to get non-sister fruits from villagers, because if so then there's like no need for anyone to ever use online play to get fruits anymore

That could be it (and a great feature to have implemented in my opinion). I recall getting cherries (neither my native nor sister fruit) from Mom in the mail early on in the game -- it might have been as early as within the first week. This makes me wonder how long it would have taken me to get the fourth fruit, which I got from my partner (who got it from Mom in the same letter).

Villagers have given me foreign fruit before. It's rare, but it happens.

When I was first in the game I helped deliver something to another islander and I got a peach as a thank you which was amazing as my islands native fruit is cherry's and I was having no luck finding other fruit on mystery islands :)

My villagers never give me fruit. I would love it though if there was an option to get all the fruit without online. I didn’t get online for the first few months and I remember being really frustrated about how I only had two fruits. My native is oranges and my sister fruit is pears which is the same as what mom sent me. I tried mailing fruit to my villagers because in the older games they would sometimes mail you a different fruit back, but it never worked.

Sometimes it's RNG. I got some dialogue from Maple today I'd never seen before. I went about 2 months without seeing Redd at one point, and another day I got 5 venders in one day (Gulivarr on the shore, Label in the square, Wisp and Celeste on the hill and Redd's ship). I've had max friendship with Reneigh for ages and she's yet to give me her photo. As for fruit, I've had some native pears given to me once, but nothing else. So who knows. 🤔

this games RNG is legit ssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii ------------------

When Rory gives you an orange it's called a Rorange

I don't know if I've ever had a villager give me cherries, my sister fruit, but it's cool to hear that it's a feature in this game, albeit apparently an extremely rare one! I agree that the RNG can really impact how much people get out of the game/get to experience of the game's features.

I’ve never really been into gifting my villagers because I thought it would tamper with their style/ decor in their houses? I see people selling villagers that are ‘Gifted’ or ‘Ungifted’ and thought it was bad, maybe it’s just a preference for buyers? I’m not sure, but know I know I WILL be gifting my villagers in hopes to get some fruits :D
