like many others said, it's impossible to type more than 'hi' and 'ty' in-game lol. team nintendo app all the way, although it's still annoying that there's a character limit.
this. i hardly ever use the switch keyboard for typing as using the app is a lot easier aha

writing in game is so stressful, i always use the app and it works wonderfully and takes so much pressure off when trading haha
Why not just use a USB keyboard? No need to bother with emulators. Also, a remote desktop tool would work better than an emulator too. Going back to the USB keyboard, if you don't want to plug one into your Switch for some reason, they also plug into Androids, and bluetooth keyboards work too.
I own a Switch Lite and it's a bit of a hassle to use the phone just to type (or I'm just too lazy to switch between the phone and console). I keep my responses to just 'hi', 'thnx' or 'tysm', 'bye', or 'np' then followed by a bunch of reactions. I think the other party fully understand that.

my only keyboard is wired and attached to my computer, i'm not sure where the usb port would plug in?
I could probably look into getting remote desktop set up though.

I like the fact that I can type on my phone while there’s a loading screen (like when people are flying in) and send it when they land.
Some people also just say “I don’t type/talk much in game” on their threads/private messages when they’re trading, and this helps me know that they’re not unfriendly, they just hate the keyboard like the rest of us do. I do use it, but I really only say “hi!” and “tysm!” The reacts are pretty good for the rest imo.

I do have access to nintendo online, but my phone is kinda crap and is constantly running out so most of the time I just use the in-game keyboard. it was horrific on the first day but now I pretty much use it 100% of the time and I've gotten used to it.

Honestly, the only times I do have to use the keyboard is when I have to conduct a trade through here. Otherwise, anyone else I play with, friends in particular, I usually just join in a call with them to make communicating so much easier.
When I do type, I actually use the touchscreen, I've actually gotten quite used to it, but I'm still pretty slow given how wide the screen keyboard is. If only they enabled diction, it would be so much easier!

I don’t bother with the app because I don’t like the idea of having to use an outside device to play.

i don't love the app, but it definitely takes pressure off when trading (i feel like it should stay open and not go to sleep when i'm playing—unlocking my phone and reloading it is a bit of a hassle, especially if i'm trying to clarify smth).
AC etiquette is pretty easy to adapt to though! i think the universal language we develop (like running around in circles) is cute. i love seeing what reactions folks prefer to use, even if you don't know that person irl you see a little snippet about how they communicate and their personality.
