Wouldn't that be considered increased government regulation, though? Employers should be allowed to create their own working conditions (to an extent), IMO. I think unions serve a good purpose in theory. It doesn't always translate well in practice, of course.

Well I'm not sure why private workers would be upset.
It wouldn't have to be increased that much. Instead of regulations, then, there would be some kind of worker's rights. They have to rights to certain conditions. Yes, employers should be able to create their own conditions. If the government controlled the businesses, we'd become slightly Communistic. To your first sentence, sometimes that's not a bad thing. It's like child labor laws; they're something that is needed.
There's nothing wrong with unions unless the government is bailing out businesses that gave into too many union demands (GM, etc.) or if they are unions for government employees, which pretty much get whatever they want and leech off everyone else in the state (lol).

I think unions are necessary, but saying let's go kill the guy won't help anyone. In fact, the comment just becomes obnoxious. Of course, something should be done, but not in such a hateful way. I'm not that good with politics and such, but people please! And yep. That's the government for ya.

that's my view on teachers. they ***** and whine about everything, just because they can.
i've heard good teachers ***** and whine about it, and i totally side with them because they are the ones who deserve more than what they're putting in, but i would have to say that teachers unions going on strike or whatever for more pay are not full of the truly good teachers. i would say that those teachers have more of an obligation to their students than that.
seems stupid, since it's basically putting all your faith in them being "good hearted" enough to not care about money.. but i don't think that teaching is the kind of job that you do for money. i wouldn't, at least.
imo, teaching is either a fallback job, or something you're really passionate about. there's no real in between. coaches are the best example i can think of, since we have all probably seen them in high school. the coaches almost always teach history/world geography, and most of the time aren't as gung-ho about actual teaching as the "regular" teachers.
i dunno. my two cents.

No, you must be ignorant because you're still in high school and only decided to make a thread about the protests in Madison because some Twitter users posted threatening things about their governor (something that's not even newsworthy at the best of times.)
Well threatening violence happens all the time on pretty much anything there is a debate on. It is only when there is actual violence that I think people should worry.
Teachers are some of the more selfless people in this country. They are trusted with kids, and as such probably could get better jobs. In fact the good teachers definitely could get better jobs. But here is the thing, if they did our country would only be falling further behind in education. I really think a little more incentive to be a teacher is a good thing. I mean honestly it doesn't even have to be a pay raise, it could be like a tax break, or just extra benefits...
As far as striking goes, what else can they do? Does it hurt their students? Yes, but is holding that over them to keep them in line any better? I don't know the full story here, but most teachers I know wouldn't do this lightly.

No, I'm ignorant because I come form an ignorant home. Yes, my initial state was ignorant, but I admitted it was wrong and I was ready to learn from people that knew better than me about the current subject.
