Time Travel, Updates, and the Future!

Yeah. The only way to prevent spoilers 100% is just to stay off the internet. I just got used to Bell Tree being really good about using the spoiler tag, so when I found that out I was just a bit surprised. And sometimes, I do spoil myself on purpose, but I do like having the option to choose (personally speaking). That's why I've decided to stay off of social media when the next update comes out and I was wondering if anyone else was planning on also changing up their playstyle. Mostly because I don't think a non-spoiler chat thread could compete with a free "what have you found out about _____ update?" type of thread. 😊😎
Yah, sorry if I came off as mean or rude! In retrospect I think I might've 😅 I think I'm just having one of those days where even I can't seem to understand what I'm trying to say. IDK if everyone has those days or maybe it's just an autistic thing 😂

And, for what it's worth, I also agree- spoilers should be optional, but unfortunately, there are always people who are going to spoil things on purpose or unintentionally. I definitely have times where I don't want spoilers for some things, but I do for others. Like in a lot of video games I often want an IDEA of what's going to happen... but not the exact dialogue. That way, I'm prepared for any big surprises (for instance, whenever a new update comes for GW2, I always look up the synopsis to prepare myself emotionally for any big reveals, lol) but it still feels special to ACTUALLY experience it myself. Like, I have a general idea of how Halloween will go... BUT I'm also looking forward to actually experiencing it with my villagers, on my island, seeing exactly what everyone has to say and exactly how all the fun will play out! I think part of it for me, too, is that I don't think of holidays as a one time thing. I've always loved to try and experience holidays as a season- so I TT back and forth throughout that season and I don't generally get bored. If I do, I just move on to another video game for a bit... or, you know, get some work done... which I technically should be doing now... I also enjoy TTing because, at least when I was a kid, there were days when I'd feel sad or whatever... and I just wanted a little bit of Halloween in May, or Christmas in April, or whatever to cheer myself up. Heck, in CF I made most of my money TTing to holidays and selling the furniture- it was kind of repetitive, my town was almost always a mess, and I'd pretty much never play holidays when they were actually happening IRL, but I had a blast! Animal Crossing games are definitely great because you can play how you wanna play... but it's also fun to connect with people who like to play how you play.
And that's what I was trying to figure out how to put into words before 😝

I time traveled to Halloween already to get the DIYs because I thought it was a mistake on the part of the game developers to give DIYs *on* the holiday. After Halloween, I won't necessarily need a pumpkin carriage on my island but it's great now to decorate with it in anticipation of Halloween. I hope they don't do Toy Day DIYs on the day. I'd like to have the decorations put up after Thanksgiving.

I time traveled with my previous island to winter to shake trees and get some ornaments. But after doing a little of that, I decided to go back and not stay in December because I want to enjoy it when it's Christmas season in real life.

No worries! I got ya! Everyone has those days.

As someone who does TT and did so to enjoy the DIY/Pumpkins before October 1st, I refuse to TT to Halloween (it can be very tempting to!). I want to experience the event naturally. It will be more special to me and authentic if the first time I see my villagers in costumes and hand out candy is on the actual day. For me personally, I think I will enjoy it a lot more if I just wait. Of course if I was busy and couldn't experience it authentically then I would TT without hesitation. I do not have that issue though. To be clear, there is absolutely nothing with with TTing to events. If you're comfortable with doing that then go for it! If you're uncomfortable with it then wait. Easy peasy! 😊

I really only ever tt to speed up construction/moving buildings or move out villagers so I would say I refuse to tt to events because there's already such sparse content as is and new content should definitely be waited on so there's something to look forward too. I don't think there's anything wrong with people who do tt to events, because at the end of the day to each their own !

Usually I only TT when I'm changing landscaping because I honestly can't play every day and I don't want moving a bridge to take two weeks. That said I did TT for Halloween when I realized an item I wanted was locked to the 31st. I don't have a ton of use for it in Nov. I wanted to enjoy spoopy month with all my decorations up.

it's funny because i actually timetravelled (day by day) 26 days ahead in the first week then went backwards to play in october 1st again because i didn't want to spoil halloween for myself. i just wanted the new clothing and diys to decorate my island with asap, without the hassle of having to pay/trade :(

I'm really excited for the Halloween event. I don't TT and play for maybe 30 minutes a day, so I've been slowly collecting the spooky DIY's and decorating. I've really enjoyed the update so far.

I think it's interesting because I've been reading the replies on this thread and I have a different perspective. I really like to experience holidays/birthdays in video games before they happen in real life so I can savor the feeling of being in that time of year a little longer. Why celebrate Halloween one day a year when you can celebrate it one day in ACNH and one day in real life? I almost wish that the Halloween update came out sooner because it would've been fun to go to my favorite holiday in a video game when it was in the middle of spring/summer in real life. I feel like it's a "celebrating Christmas in November" type of situation, you want the feeling of being in that holiday to last as long as possible so you do your best to draw it out.

I always time travel with day to day stuff, I can't bare to not because I don't have an adequate enough attention span to really play the game without it. Although this would really benefit me in helping me get my island completed and looking nice cos I'm a definite procrastinator LOL
Wouldn't ever time travel for events because it's nice to experience them as they come, and they don't tend to last that long anyway.

I work a full time job and lucky if I can even play once a week for an hour, so if I want to tt and do it all in one day so I can enjoy it at all without missing it completely, that is what I will do. I don't understand the gatekeeping with this game, some people need to get off their high horses.

Personally I used to timetravel to events a lot in new leaf because I'd lose interest in that game for months at a time and I'd miss all my favourite events. So I experienced them whenever I actually felt like it and enjoyed them thoroughly. Where I live I don't even celebrate thanksgiving or halloween so the date being off didn't matter at all for me, it's just fun. Now in New Horizons actually I'm enjoying the wait, the updates do make everything feel fresh and it's actually doing a good job of keeping me interested in the game, so perhaps nintendo's idea worked?

I usually don't time travel to events, but I did for this Halloween because I wanted a certain item for decoration purposes. It's not about impatience really... I just wanted to have the item out and enjoy it for more than a day or two. I would have preferred to not spoil the event for myself, to be honest... but as is, I think I'll enjoy it the second time around just as much or more so, since I won't feel rushed or compelled to do anything.

I don't see the point of locking decorative items until the day of the event. That's like putting your Christmas tree up on the 24th... which is fine, and I've done it, but it's nice to get a little more use out of it, too. I guess I could have waited until next year, but hopefully next year there will be new items, too.
