Thoughts on Uchi Villagers

There's a few I like, like Pashmina! Unfortunately, I'm trying to find another Uchi because she was my starter and I gifted her a flower my first week of playing. I can't stand her ugly house

I think a lot are really cute, even the ones people tend to overlook. I really like Ursala's design! Same with Agnes, Canberra, and Muffy! Reneigh is the most pretty imo.

The designs aren't exactly the best in the game so I've struggled to settle on one I really love. I also don't think they're as blunt as they were in NL. I actually miss the borderline rudeness!

I've currently got Muffy but I've also tried Mira, Plucky and Diva. I disliked Diva so much I amiibo'd her out as soon as humanly possible. It was the sporty shades (she has the fitness hobby) perched on her frog eyes that did it! I'm actually starting to miss Plucky a little so I might try to get her back at some point.

Phoebe is my favorite Uchi villager. She's a mystical Phoenix and fits the theme of my island, Greek Mythology perfectly.

Here is something regarding uchi villagers: None of them are below average. There are five I’m neutral to: Deirdre, Charlise, Canberra, Frita, and Renée. All other are outstanding, or at the very least, I like them. Even Diva and Paula are good to me. My favorite of this personality is Hazel, who I want on my island. I love her unibrow and how she’s proud of it.

Uchi villagers are my favorite female personality and I actually like almost all of their designs. People are too close-minded imo because most uchi villager designs don’t adhere to typical feminine beauty standards. I’d have 2 on my island if the subpersonalities weren’t split so terribly (seriously, only 4 uchis are subtype B wtf).

I'm glad you said this and it was well-received because that's what I came here to say but I was afraid it would be too much of a hot take

imo you're absolutely right, people (either consciously or subconsciously) dislike uchis largely because their designs, as a whole, aren't as cutesy and feminine as the other female personalities. I also think it's no coincidence that normal villagers, who have the most traditionally feminine personality type (shy, meek, always trying to please everyone, love baking for their friends), also generally have designs that are loved by everyone. anecdotally I've seen a lot of people saying things like "based on their designs alone, I'd have like 4 or 5 normal villagers on my island!". I think personality type informs character design, and so the more feminine personalities have "cuter" and more conventionally attractive (it's weird to talk about "attractiveness" when it comes to cartoon animals lol but you know what I mean) designs whereas the less feminine personality type has more out-there character designs

for the record I'm not saying not liking uchis makes anyone a misogynist or anything. I'm one of those "I'd have 5 normals if it wasn't too repetitive just because their designs are so cute" people, myself. I just think it's an interesting example of ingrained assumptions and expectations of female beauty, and how those expectations affect how we see female characters, even when those female characters are goofy cartoon animals.

My problem with the uchi (sisterly) villagers is that there's a lack of appealing designs, like you said. I don't mind a few of them. Phoebe, Mira, and Reneigh are all cute enough, although I wouldn't personally have any on my island unless they increased the villager cap by a lot.

I have a Pheobe and I adore her pilum. She also shares the same bday as mom so.... yea.

i like the uchis! they’re not my favourite in terms of personality or appearance but they’re still really cool! i think my favourite has to be fuchsia - i just really like her neon colours and plus, she’s a deer so she gets bonus points for that LMAO. but i also really love deirdre, katt, cherry, ursula and tammy! ^^

I don't like most uchi designs. However, I do like Cherry, so I was incredibly lucky to get her as a starter villager.

I really like uchi villagers personally, I think they are super underrated and people dont like them simply because there are not a lot of ones that people deem cute. Once you get to know them they're super sweet. Personally I think Reneigh, Canberra <3, Diva, Deirdre, Cherry, Mira, Ursala, Renee and Tammy are all super cute uchi villagers

I only have a few uchi villagers as favorites. The ones I like so far are Fuchsia, Deirdre, Shari, and Pashmina. All the other ones are either OK or I just don't like their designs. I wish there was more however, because I would love to find some more favorites.

i love uchis! ive always thought cherry (th dog) was real cool but im personally an advocate for deirdre. dont worry, that shirt she had in NL has been replaced with a cute flower sweater LOL

I absolutely love Uchis! My favorites are Reneigh, Pashmina and Katt. But Phoebe, Agnes, Fuchsia and Hazel are all good too!

I really liked the uchi villagers in New Leaf but I don’t vibe with them as much in New Horizons, tho I still enjoy them. Some of my favorites are Fuchsia, Muffy, Frita, Diva, Cherry and Reneigh.

The uchi personality is the reason I'm drawn to uchi residents. They have strong opinions, and don't shy away from arguments. Or thinly veiled insults. I prefer the uchi animal to the snooty, because I find the snooty ones being way too obsessed with appearances.

My ears like the sound of the uchi voice too.

I want to always have an uchi on my island at any time. So far, I've had Diva (starter), Phoebe, Renee and Paula. My current uchi is Fuchsia. I don't have a favourite; I enjoyed the company of all of them.

Their designs may not be the cutest but I definitely love their personality. I went a long while without a sisterly villager since Tammy moved out (had to get rid of that empty starter home...) and I only recently got one back, I missed it for sure!

Some of the designs are absolutely poorly executed but there are villagers like that in every category. Most of them are just 'different', just like their personality. Whether someone can appreciate that or not is up to that person, I suppose.

I kinda like their attitude myself, so I'm willing to keep one of them around for that :]

When New Leaf first came out I would've agreed that they're not great.

Now I think a lot of them are pretty cool. Their appearances stand out and they are very memorable. They don't fit the cutesy aesthetic most people seem to like, but as someone who isn't it really into that they're right up my alley.
