Marshal: he's adorable. I happen to really like his overall character design, color scheme, clothing, and house. Sure, they're not the most exciting, but combined, they make him out to look precisely what he is: smug. He's got a fluffy, ~fuwa fuwa~ sort of confidence about him that I quite enjoy.
Merengue: not a huge fan of her design, but I know why people so often put her down as a dreamie. Strawberries! Cake! Come on.
Lolly: she's for sure cute, but not particularly interesting in my opinion. But her color scheme and design are appropriate for anyone wanting a town made up of dainty, fairy-tale like villagers.
Diana: I didn't think I'd like her when she moved into my town solely because I'm not usually into the traditionally feminine (design-wise) characters, but... she's grown on me. Very pretty, with a lovely home to boot. I might keep her around~
Ankha: had her in my last town. I was actually surprised by how sad I was when I found out she was in boxes before I even had a chance to intervene. She's unique and adorable, A+.
Julian: would probably not be as popular were he to be a regular horse and not a unicorn.
Zucker: seeing as takoyaki is one of my favorite foods and I'm all about macabre humor... I love this little octopus. Would love to have him in my town in the near future, although I think this next lazy villager will grow on me:
Stitches: just asked him to move into my town via campsite today! I thought him a little strange, a little creepy, but after seeing him in the game I'm ready to change my mind about Stitches. He's charming and his smile is very sweet.
Rosie: like Lolly, all cuteness aside, she's not a very interesting villager to me. But of course, I recognize her appeal.
Beau: adorable and, true to his personality type, lazy looking. His design is so cute. *grabby hands*
Fauna: another adorable deer—also loving that they decided to give her the shearling coat. It goes so well with her design! I quite like her, although a part of me kind of wishes they had gone with a slightly lighter color scheme.
Tia: lovely concept and design execution. I love her so much! I wish they had done something slightly different with the interior and exterior of her home, as I feel like they don't quite fit her appearance and concept entirely, but it's all right. She's a teapot elephant, after all.
Marina: cute, but not quite my cup of tea (ha). I can see why people love Zucker (I mean, look at me), but why the fascination with the other octopus villagers? I'm not sure I really understand.
Bam: am I one of the only ones who finds his design a little frightening? I love his freckles and blue fur, but that aside... I just don't see the appeal. The red eyes really throw me off.
Fang: a pretty boy villager, if there ever was one. I can see why people like him as much as they do, but I just don't think there's enough to his design to pull me in.
I think most popular villagers are cute. I can understand why they are popular.
One popular villager I don't like in particular is Julian. I don't like the fact he's a unicorn. I guess he's popular for being a unicorn.
I can understand why the popular villagers are that way... the so called top tier ones usually have the most universal appeal, I think. I actually didn't know these forums and reddit trade, etc. existed. I looked up all the villagers and had mentally picked the ones I loved the appearance of. THEN i found the forums, and was disappointed to realize that the majority of mine were the so called popular ones. Drat! It took a lot of patience and bells to gather them.
