Thoughts on popular villagers?

My most favourite villager is Rosie and she's popular <3
I also like Fauna, Beau and Stitches. They're all in my town and they are so cute, they all definitely deserve their popularity.

I also have Marshal in my town but his ^ face kind of bothers me. He wasn't as cute as I thought he would be, I think he's slightly overrated. I still like him though.
He's the only smug left I like (besides Zell and Lopez who I would have to cycle 16 for if I want them) so I guess he's staying.

Villagers are mostly very popular because of how cute/unique they are and that is completely understandable. I had a few very popular villagers move in even before I knew popularity existed lol but I kept them because of their uniqueness and cuteness and I'll always love them! :D It's just personal preferance and people can have whoever they want in their town :)

There are some lovely designed top tiers out there, hence why they're top tier.

Imo, Marshal is slightly bland but he's a very funny, active character to have and his marshmallow/sulky appearance is like the icing on top. I had him before my town corrupted and he was very sweet. However O'hare is forever my favourite smug.

I had Julian too and didn't really like him. I found his colour choice too weird and he was just another smug. He's a unicorn, yes, however they could have done much better.

I haven't had Stitches, but at first I thought 'how scary', but after a while I thought 'how cute'. This possibly happened because I had a good look at all my early childhood plushies and was soon reminded of him <3

Diana is honestly the snootiest snooty there is. She is just so sassy and fabulous, I feel like I need her back. Whitney is amazing too, but I think Diana is the snooty queen <3

I had Merengue but didn't like her. I didn't have her for long either, which probably suggests why our bond was lacking. I'd actually like to have her back for my new town.

Fauna, however, is my absolute favourite villager of all time. I lost her in file corruption twice and have yet to get her back again.

LOL wtf people. If you know this thread won't end well, you don't have to announce it. -____- It could end up being a good thread if you stop putting your own arguments about these types of threads in the mix. js

I like most popular villagers. They're popularity is a boost if i should get them or not, but I find some of the populars quite ugly. Marshal is da cutest squirrel though <3

I, personally think Marshal is overrated. Even though I have him in my town. He is cute, but not much appeal. It is a matter of preference, whether you like a villager or not. Sometimes people just cannot get along, because their tastes in villagers conflict. And some are just plain rude when people share opinions. Eg. "OMG Ew Marshal is a fat failure he suks so much lol." It is fine to share your thoughts and opinions( I highly encourage it)
but the way people say it can be quite rude. And the worst of all, they repeat it on EVERY thread about villager opinions. Which really gets on my nerves. Some young users here (9-13) can post rude things, and they do not respect other opinions, or constructive critisicm. Which I am disappointed.
I know alot of users here who are like that, but I'd rather not say their name.

For me, I think Marshal, Whitney, and Merengue is a tad bit overrated.
Marshal is so cute it covers up his smug personality. Whitney is a white wolf.(That's about it, I don't like her design much)
And I would prefer Merengue to have lighter colors.

I'm not really a fan of most teir one villagers. There are exceptions like Baeu, Stitches, and Julian but that's it. I have individual reasons for each one, but a reason they all have in common is that they all are indeed, quite over rated. Don't get me wrong, I can see why they're popular, most of them are pretty cute! But to me they feel like that over played song on the radio, you really like it at first, but you get kind of sick of it after awhile, if that makes sense. Also, I like individuality, and its really no fun when everyone's town has the same or the majority of the same villagers.

I'm not that big of a fan of Marshal, even though everyone on here ADORES HIM. He's cute, but he's not really my type of villager. If I ever got him I'd probably just sell him tbh.

So, here's my opinions on the Tier One villagers as they are now...

1. Marshal - one of my dreamies, such a cutie
2. Merengue - don't really like her design that much, although I can see why people like her
3. Lolly - current resident of my town, not a personal favourite but still very cute
4. Diana - sassiest snooty of them all, queen of the villagers, dreamie forever
5. Ankha - great concept and design, not one of my favourites but definitely can see why she's a lot of people's dreamie
6. Julian - he's a unicorn, which is why I think a lot of people want him
7. Zucker - can't really see why people love him so much, but each to their own
8. Stitches - I personally find him creepy, but I understand why some find him cute
9. Rosie - very cute, good personality
10. Beau - probably one of the best lazies, and he's a new species in NL so I can see the attraction to him
11. Fauna - so sweet, lovely design
12. Tia - great concept and design, really, really like her, narrowly misses out on my dreamies list
13. Marina - can't see the attraction with the octopi villagers
14. Bam - one of the best jocks, and he's a deer, everyone likes the deer, right?
15. Fang - the wolves are always popular, Fang has a great design and name so....

I dislike a couple of the populars, I like a couple of 'em. I don't really see why Marshal is so popular as previously stated- then again, I don't really get why Stiches is so high above Bluebear, for example. One of the villagers I think is most justified for being so high is Julian- when chatting to him, you almost get the feeling that the "smug" personality was made for him, it fits his overall theme so well. He doesn't feel like a carbon copy of the other horses, which I think is why he is so high up.
Then again I'm sure Savannah is a great villager and, if they had have given her a horn, I wonder if she'd be up with, or even replacing Julian.

I like who I like and I can't really help it. Most of the villagers I like are tier 1's and 2's. Cliche saying but I don't really care about a villager's popularity. At the end of the day, they are all villagers, only difference to each other is their appearance, but they
are basically on the same equal level of each other. So what if some are just more desired than others? :] I find it a weird reason when people hate specific villagers just because they're overrated (it's like hating a villager for being underrated) but it's not my opinion, it's theirs. And I guess everyone is unique with their own opinions of villager popularity. :~)

I like a few of them, Marshal is cute, Diana is pretty, and I want Phoebe and Ankha in my second town eventually. I'm not too fond of the octopus villagers, but now that I have Marina in my photo cycling town, it's hard to not put her on my dreamie list...
Some others are just...well...nice, but nothing special (like Rosie and Lolly. Merengue doesn't appeal to me, and Julian is just ugh....I hate unicorns.

I don't dislike any villagers just because they're popular. If you like them, that's great. But one thing I'll never understand is why some people want them just for that reason. If you're planning on selling them, sure....but just to have a town full of popluar villagers you don't even like as characters? ?o

It so happens that most the villagers with the best art are the more popular ones, and I'm partial to superior art. I'm all visual though.

Although, something I realized about villagers is that the personally matters a lot. For instance, about the only joy I found in talking to Diana is her use of mischief. Other than that, she pretty much summed up everyone in high school that I hated.

I don't judge by popularity, I could care less, but many of the "popular" villagers are very cute/cool, so I do like a lot of them.

I do sometimes thinks its sad though, everyone should have one unpopular they love from previous games lol
its sad for people who have only played New leaf as many are swayed by the populars and dont get the experience of knowing ones that aren't..

I like Merengue, but I won't hunt for anyone else. A lot of them nice and cute and stuff, but I don't want to seek them everywhere and offer all my bells and sets. I mostly like cute designs, so I was surprised that Nibbles is not popular. She has really cute design, I make her wear only kiwi\watermelon\strawberry tees and oh my goodness one day I may die from cuteness. Also Eunice, if I ever start a new town she always will be my number one to get.

Most of my favourites are not all that popular, but I don't hold some kind of weird grudge against popular villagers or people that like them. Marshal is also quite cute, and I'll need him if I want to make an all-squirrel town.

I see most popular villagers based on their unique qualities, for instance, some looking like food (Tangy, Merengue) and some looking like different things (Julian, Stitches) and some even being based off of real people or stereotypes (Monique, Ankha). Others are chosen because they look cute or hot (Marshal, Rosie, Beau, scroll the list). Of course, everyone wants the wolves because of whatever made them popular. Same with cats, because either people really like them, they have cats as pets, or they like to pretend they're Warriors (book series) cats. Rabbits are also cute in real life, dogs are beloved pets, and people ride horses, too. Of course deer and hamsters are new species, so they'll be popular, too, until the next Animal Crossing appears.

Most of this is why you don't see other cute animals getting loved. I mean, think about villagers like Wendy, Melba, Hugh, Roald; they're adorable, but not as desired. On top of this, the bandwagon effect happens. People will follow and like what other people are following and liking (Facebook/Twitter references unintentional). That's why popular villagers stay popular. You see a villager in other's towns a whole lot, you'll want to have it for yourself. Tiers have the same effect. This will also die out when the next Animal Crossing comes in.

Truly, I don't adhere to tiers, or what others say. What you like is your own choice and your own opinion.

I like most of the populars except Merengue. I had her as a random move in this summer and she didn't do much for me, but she's okay!
