Thoughts on Makeup Shaming?

It's my face I do whatever I want with it
I have to wake up and deal with it so I mind as well do whatever I want to feel comfortable with it

If the purpose of the makeup is to look good in front of other people, then shouldn't the person wearing the makeup consider the opinions of other people whether good or bad in order to get an idea of what looks good?

I don't quite understand makeup, so apologies if this offends.

That isn't really the purpose of makeup but anyways if someone wants to offer their criticism they don't need to be an ass about it

I guess it depends on why you're wearing makeup. If you are trying to look good for other people, then yeah, it wouldn't hurt to take other's opinions into account. But most people I know wear makeup for themselves, because it's fun to play around with different colours and textures, and they can treat their face like a canvas and their makeup like an art form! I have definitely sat at home in my room, put on a full face of makeup and then immediately take it off, just because the process of applying makeup is really fun and puts me in a good mood.

If I was wearing makeup incorrectly, I would certainly like to know.

What is "incorrect" though? That's what I'm saying...makeup is such a subjective thing that I don't think there is a "right" or "wrong" way to wear it. It's really a matter of preference.

I think Mariah means if the makeup looks incredibly unflattering, but of course whatever makes people happy

i mean if ur gonna contour ur nose with orange blush and make urself look like a damn fool don't be surprised when people call it like they see it
ppl too easily offended lol why even make these threads

I don't care how people wear it, it's totally their personal preference...but I know I do get shady looks because I don't wear it...either way NOT COOL PEOPLE!!!

I mean why not just tell them better ways to contour instead of being a brat about it though...

That's what I'm saying, like if you want to give them some advice then by all means! But if they genuinely love how they look with orange contour then that's all there is to it. No point in ridiculing people for doing what makes them happy, ya know?

i mean if ur happy lookin like ronald mcdonald by all means go ahead but thats not gonna stop ppl from laughin at ur ability to apply makeup properly :) youtube.com tutorials are there for a reason hunties

I believe there is a right and wrong way to imply makeup. It all depends.
If you seen someone walking down the street with one pencil-in eyebrow you're going to look like what.
There's a difference than looking a hot mess and having a preference.

I personally help people with their makeup, especially foundation.

If you wear makeup any type of way and make it work then kudos to you.

Why do you care, though? That's my question. Because yeah, if I saw someone walking down the street with orange foundation, orange contour and crazy pink blush, I would have an "omg she looks silly" moment too. But at the end of the day, my opinion, your opinion, everyone else's opinion does not matter. The only person who needs to like the makeup is the person wearing it.

basically yeah, your make up choices are your own. i've had people whine at me for mine, but i usually just tell them to check their egos, because they couldn't be more irrelevant to my comfort with my appearance and i'm gonna do what i gotta do regardless if i look like whatever empty and arbitrary metaphor that's thrown at me.

"trust issues" regarding make up is so laughable i can't take anyone who says that seriously.

i mean, i would expect my friends to be honest with me, and don't mind someone who blatantly has more experience giving me advice if i post a picture saying "how do i look", but there's tact, couth, ettiquite, compassion and timing.

personally i try and keep my thoughts and even my positive advice tempered because i have no relevance to someone's self expression.

I'm saying that if someone is perfectly happy with how they present themselves, there's no point in making them feel bad just because you don't like their style. I might think your makeup and outfit look HORRIBLE, but that doesn't give me the right to insult you and make you feel like ****.
Constructive criticism is fine, and if you want to help your friends with their makeup then go for it! I just don't think it's necessary to be a jerk about it and make fun of people for how they present themselves.

the people who need to wear makeup to feel like they are pretty and I'm like no guys gonna date you anyway

also I need a water gun so I can be like let me see your real face ***** and stop being deceitful
