The Villager Tier System: Loving it or Hating it

Do you like the tier system?

I agree with Kaiaa. It's a little silly to take it so seriously, and to say things like it's bullying. Come on, guys, these characters don't really exist. It's just a way to gauge fair trade in the forums; I guess I've never really seen it as an actual popularity spectrum.

I didn't even know who Marshal was until I found this forum today.

I don't mind the list at all. I think its very useful when putting a villager up for sale. I would have no idea if I should try and get items/ bells for them or let them go for free otherwise. I always make every effort to find a good home for all my boxed villagers, but then again I am also not asking for high prices on tier ones either. For me, its just one more level of the game.

tiers shouldnt have existed in the first place. villagers are villagers. we can all just blame this on hound00med.
its also dumb that ppl dont like villagers because theyre tier 4/5.

I think above all its necessary for a forum like this, if we didn't I think prices would be even more out of control and there would be actually more disagreements... like can you imagine NOT having a tier system as a reference when doing villager trades? Someone would post like Celia for instance for like 10 million bells and then justify it by saying "I've seen a lot of people looking for her and know she's popular" when they could be totally lying... or someone would say I don't think she is that popular and then argument ensues. I think our tier system has become so mainstream we don't see how useful it actually is.... and yeah there not real... and if you look hard enough and post enough in the LF thread someone usually within a week will respond to it... I am someone who has cycled through tons of low tiers and high tiers not wanting to pay a lot of IGB or TBT and never been displeased with how long I've looked for a specific villager (not been more than 4 days in past few months) those complaining about MONTHS of not seeing a dreamy are doing something wrong.... to name a few villagers I've spent time getting are Bettina, Bianca, Avery, and others listed in my Sig that aren't particularly "popular"

I think it's just an indicator. It helps people knowing how much they can get for a villager. And for people who think it's just an excuse so people can overprice some villagers, sorry but that is just how economy works. When something is in high demand, it's price goes up. And it's not just in this forum, they're popular everywhere. I do wish people wouldn't auto void the lower tiers, but every time I posted on the lf thread looking for low tiers, people offered them to me. And I do the same, when an unpopular villager moves out of my town I search for posts lf them :)

I don't mind it that much, really. Especially because it causes higher tiers to be available more frequently and my dreamie list does have a couple of higher tier characters. Because I did not select them based on tier, but based on personality, appearance and uniqueness, this is quite beneficial for me. On the other hand, less popular characters do often get voided very quickly, which causes a struggle when trying to go for those... like Scoot D:

I'm personally against the Tier System as well because I think all villagers are equal in every way (especially since they all have the same probability of moving to your town). To me the "coolness" of a villager is all personal preference. I also find that some of the coolest villagers are thrown into Tier 5 just because of some dumb reason, like Croque for example. Croque is probably one of the coolest villagers I have and also has requested most of the cool PWPs in my town (since my town is a Zen/Naturalistic theme). Overall, I think the system just makes it harder for people to get villagers they actually want.

It's just a popularity contest

I don't care if my favourite villagers are the favourite villagers of a hundred other players or just me

I see peoples' signatures with their villagers displayed and a lot of the time it feels like everyone has the same villagers because they're popular ?\_(ツ)_/?

I pretty much agree that's it's just necessary and can be very helpful for selling and trading (for example I've had a lot of luck trading popular villagers for unpopular ones that I really like...everyone's happy!).

I find it really interesting how it affects people's taste though. I think I've even found myself being influenced by it for better or worse. When Merengue first came to my campsite I was like "who is this thing and what on earth is on her face", but now I think she's pretty cute

I don't really see anything wrong with it as long as individuals don't take it overly seriously and think any non tier 1 villager is dirt. It's a nifty way to see who is most talked about/ wanted on our forum. I see plenty of people who still have lower tiers that they love and high tiers that they didn't like.

I feel like you're always annoyed by everything. Maybe you should just not let these small things get to you?

If you're referring to me, I'm only annoyed by the creation of multiple threads related to villager tiers (like favorite tier five villager or what tier two villagers do you have etc).

It definitely is a double edged sword. I mean it's great to know how much villagers can go for so that you can kinda base your prices off of what they're worth. But at the same time, it's not great that people who want lower tiered villagers have to spend SO long searching for a dreamie who's in a tier lower than 1 and 2.

Like, I've seen quite a few people who want a villager that's in like tier 4 or 5 spend a LONG time searching for that villager because they're auto-voided.
