The State of Nickelodeon in 2014

they're trying to appeal to the new generations of children, these new shows are going to be someone's favorite shows and if we don't like them, who really cares? Remote is right there. Ratings. That's all they care about. It's like this: "darn kids and their rap music and HIPPITY-HOP! Why, in my day... (ramble)!" that's basically what this sounds like to me.

Agreed. It basically just sounds like the most pretentious thing in the world. "My shows were better than yours."

Eh, Nickelodeon has ALWAYS sucked in my opinion. But it does seem to be getting even worse now.

do u guys remember noggin???? with moose and zee????? and then one morning they just waved goodbye and the screen went black and then it became nick jr. sob

they need to make a separate channel like called "throwback" lmao idk but they need to make a channel where they have all of the old shows from cartoon network, disney channel, + nickelodeon where they just play all of the old shows (johnny bravo, chowder, camp lazlo, fairly odd parents, drake and josh, powerpuff girls, hannah montana, zack and cody, etc) like yes PLEASE

Doesn't Cartoon Network already do this?? In Winter they air a lot of 90s shows and they have 'Cartoon Cartoons' really late at night (11pm i think) and it has a ton of cartoons from the 90s - Early 2000s... to be fair I haven't watched CN for a year or two so I wouldnt know if it was still on but CtCD was on at 9PM and PPG and Dexter's Lab shortly followed

Agreed, tbf I grew up with 90s TV shows but I don't think they're any better or worse than the ones airing now, but I do prefer them for the nostalgic factor. Heck, I still watch the PPG and Rugrats.

Doesn't it go to Adult Swim after that? I thought it was Boomerang or something that ran all of the old shows.

Not in the UK. According to Wikipedia, the programming block ended in August 2013 here.

There is something that I realize about what's going on about Nickelodeon long before this thread was made.

To an extent to what Alyx and oath2order said, it's not Nickelodeon that is going downhill. What's happening is that each show is fit for one generation. Not to mention, the channel is aimed towards 6 to 12 year olds. If you were a kid at the time some show is on, you would think it's great. As we get older, we may not find newer shows as good, but that's because we're getting too old for childrens' shows like Spongebob or Tom & Jerry (yes, I'm naming an even older cartoon here). The reason why older shows were better is because we were kids during the time these shows were on. I bet the Bella Football Show would be considered "good" according to the kids still watching while they will find shows in 2020 and beyond to fail.

I remember back when I was a teen, I thought Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network was going downhill when all these shows started airing. In fact, many people around my age thought the same. But as I got older, I realized that it's not Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network is going downhill. It's becoming less fit for our generation. The themes in these new childish cartoons are better for the newer generation than for our generation.

Besides, if we only air 90's Nick shows and Spongebob episodes from seasons 1 to 3 in 2016 or later, the kids at the time will be bored of the shows. Older shows may be considered "boring" by the people of the newer generations. Newer shows may considered "stupid" by the people of the older generations. It's all about generation, not quality.

I can understand why Spongebob wasn't doing too well with us since Season 4. But that doesn't mean the show is failing. If Nickelodeon was legitimately going downhill, then not only teens and young adults are thinking that it's getting worse, but kids, including little kids, are complaining about the decline. And more people will stop watching the channel as less people start watching it.

You are free to say that Nick is going downhill, but I see what's actually going on. There are some things that are legitimately going downhill, but Nickelodeon isn't one of them. I agree that Nick wasn't as good as it was before, but since I stopped watching kids' TV since 2009 (2010 was my first year I did not watch these channels), I can't see what direction Nickelodeon is going. Not only that, but SuddenLink is the only cable provider in my town. SuddenLink dropped all Viacom channels three months ago, and Nickelodeon is a Viacom channel. This means Nickelodeon is not available from wherever I live. There's no way that I can judge since I can't see it anymore. Besides, I don't even care about cable TV anymore.

Another thing I like to point out that there are at least some good shows and bad shows at each time. The only reason why we judge older shows to be all good and newer shows to be all bad is because of the generation we grew up in. To be fair, there were some 90's Nick shows that do not look appealing to me at all, but there are some that are appealing at the same time. The same is true with Nick 2005 and beyond. I do not see TV shows and channels based on era in black and white.

Long post, but this pretty much explains what Nickelodeon is up to these days.

But like, Nickelodeon has nothing particularly good compared to other mainly cartoon channels like Cartoon Network, Disney, or the Hub. They turned down Adventure Time for crying out loud. Nick's a shadow of its former self, but that's not to say everything from the early 00s and 90s were good. All the bad stuff was lost to the sands of time, long forgotten because they weren't anything special.

This is just depressing:

I stopped watching Nick after most of the shows they aired were live actors instead of cartoons.
