The Official Blue's Clues (1996-2007) Fan Club Offical Megathread

I think that in the perspective of a first timer, the pilot is an intricate and well-thought out introduction to the series as a whole while also being friendly and visually satisfying.

lol, this thread is awesome. Blues Clues taught me sign language! *smart*
Team Steve, by the way. (But Joe is also the voice of Bot on Umizoomi, and I do love Bot. "Fizzling fireboxes!" ...now I'm just getting off-topic.)

Have you guys seen stills from the test pilot? His shirt is different, and Blue is a male cat!

Theory time:
What if Blue's Clues took place in the future during a nuclear war? The radiation from the bombs mutated animals and inanimate objects to talk and act like humans, also explaining why the animals like Blue are weirdly colored, mutation. The futuristic setting has advanced technology(which is why they have letters with videos on them). When Steve leaves the show he actually went to go fight in the war.

So in the end, everyone is mutated and Steve goes off to fight in the war.

I don't know if this is already a theory, but i haven't seen the show in a while so my theory might have plot holes.

soooo.... basically like Mewtwo.... XD

After watching the pilot, I have a few notes I took during that I'd just like to share:

* The opening title sets the tone of the show very nicely. Provides a nice blend of live action, to prepare new viewers (whom are only familiar with the character of Blue) for the sudden switch to mostly animated.

* I find it odd that anyone would need a napkin/handkerchief when eating Graham Crackers. Let alone a dog.

* Our first clue being on something as simple as a yellow plastic cup makes me really miss the simplicity this show once had in it's early days. (Seeing as this is my 5th rewatch since 2010.)

* Also in this episode we see one of Blue's amazing powers, in the form of shrinking and becoming a part of the coloring book. Maybe we'll see some more exciting powers in the coming episodes. Hmmmmmm? ;)

* I feel like Salt and Pepper's characters somewhat-racist stereotypes of French peoples doesn't really work in today's 2015 political climate. Oh well, that's the late 90's for ya. (Things were just different back then.) :|

* Perry, Morgan, and Brooke from the "Mail-Call" segment were, in my opinion, the stand-out characters of this episode. Hope to see more of their characters later in the season.

* Steve's amazing gift of being able to speak with animals is on incredible display in this episode. Did you see how he handled those birds?

* Blue using a cow as a clue? Genius. The writers were obviously at the top of their game here; even from the very first episode.

* The ability to teleport by use of painting is another amazing ability. Can't wait for the big reveal in Season 4. #spoiler

* Really love seeing that wrap-up with all of the animals from the coloring book. What a great callback! But be careful, blink and you'll miss it!

* And finally, "NO, THANK YOU STEVE!"

Wow you guys. It was really great watching this episode with you. I can't wait to do it 140 more times!

I wanna join!

Sure thing!

I agree with you there on the blatant stereotypes of the salt and pepper. It was a different time and I think we should be forgiving of it. Also, yes, the painting teleportation is an amazing way to add a new scene without leaving the warmth of the home. I'm glad you really picked up on that early.

Also, just a heads up! We hit 15 members! Party tomorrow night by watching S01E02?

Graham crackers are crummy. No one wants ants

Salt and Pepper are French to represent fine cuisine, I would wager. They definitely do get better with time, and:
after Paprika I feel like the whole family improves quite a bit.

I can't wait for the show to get going and just improve. Snack Time was a great first episode to kickstart everything.

I believe that Blue's use of a napkin is representative of her human qualities and appreciation for cleanliness. This is shown in the care Blue takes to eat the graham cracker so delicately, but then I ask 'why a graham cracker?'
Typically, a dog eats dog food and dog treats, perhaps some meaty leftovers, but feeding Blue with graham crackers could show that Blue's Clues is a show founded on the basis of equality; why should Blue have to diet any differently to her co-stars?

All dogs like people food. It's more to connect with the preschooler. Blue is pretty evident of a toddler. She's a puppy, her speech is babbles, and Steve certainly fathers her. It's brilliant on the part of the writers. Steve may be our main character, but Blue is just like her audience.

I also love the breech of the 4th wall in the entire show. You are incorporated as a character, and an important one at that. It almost feels like you are at home with everyone.
