I didn't see any topic about this, so here we go.

BASICALLY my current 3DS has seen better days. It's a cosmo black first edition that I got in 2011 RIGHT after the big price cut. There's a few scratches on the back, the L trigger sticks, there's a pretty deep scratch on the touch screen, the hinge is flimsy, squeaky, and it pops, and the circle pad is worn down from countless Mario Kart 7 drifts. The speakers also crackle if the volume is anywhere over the halfway mark. Not quite the system I want to play New Leaf on.

I need a new one and I can't decide what to get. So I'm asking everyone's opinions to help me decide.

The 3DS XL seems really nice. I like the design and matte finish. Of course, I know the larger screen is great as well, as I used to have a DSi XL. But the fact that the whole system is larger means it's less portable, and I take my 3DS around a lot (which explains its current condition). I hate how there's not much selection when it comes to colors here in NA, with my only options being red or blue. I'd probably go with blue though, might even get the blue MK7 bundle. I'm starting to doubt the AC:NL 3DS XL bundle will be released here. And I've also heard that the 3DS XL's speakers crackle when at full volume. No me gusta.

Of course, I could always get the original 3DS. It has a smaller screen, but it's more compact and portable. I'd most likely get that purple one. I really like purple, so it's a big plus.

Do you think it's worth it for me to pay the extra $30 and get a 3DS XL, or just go with a new regular 3DS?

Get the XL. While you could get a 3DS and a game, you probably already have some. right?

Thanks for the input! Yeah, I have a few games, but I lost my favorite: Mario Kart 7. Which is kinda why I want the 3DS XL bundle with.

Do the speakers of your 3DS XL crackle when at full volume, like I've heard?

I say that it is worth it.
You can turn the 3D off and on anytime unlike the 3DS where the slider didn't seem to work right.
Plus if you have bad eye-sight, Like me ( I'm blind in the left eye), it helps to have that bigger image screen.

Its only like 30 extra. With that price compared to the original its a steal!

I've had my speakers up all the way.
There is no crackling sound that I have heard.

Also you can transfer all the data from you 3DS to the 3DS XL.

I prefer the regular 3DS, but I'll recommend the XL just because it seems more popular. Plus, they fixed the battery life, which is the only thing I dislike about my current 3DS. If it's such a good deal, there's no reason not to go for it.

I'm the odd one out. I like my handhelds to be smaller, but not bigger, so if you're weird like me, ignore my last paragraph.

The edges on the Xl are rounded off more than the original 3DS.
That made it feel better in my hands.
My old 3ds (now my sister's 3ds) always seemed to jabbed my hands.
Also, I got a color I liked! My XL is pink and white!

Here is an image on some articale since no one has uploaded images in photobucket of one yet.

I like my handhelds smaller too, but I like the bigger screens of the XL models.

Plus the normal 3DS comes in PURPLE now. Like. Ugh. I love purple.

I think this is in no way a rumor. I mean those images get a little too legit if you ask me. Just look at this one:

Yeah but as said before, I like handhelds small. My 3DS is almost always in my pocket so I can't imagine taking around a bag to carry a 3DSXL.

Whoa whoa whoa! that, is, mazin'! n its not even my type of design! I'd buy that! ;D

I'd like to think the XL is worth the extra ~$30 as it is compatible with all the DS software/games.
I was also concerned about the size of the XL prior to buying one since it was such a huge leap for me. I went from DS Lite to 3DS XL, lol. but it's honestly not much of a problem. I carry it around in my bag when I'm on campus; it's the only place where I can get a decent amount of streetpass tags.

If you have the money for one then why not, that's what I'm doing

YES! It is totally worth it. I'm very happy I went with an XL. I love my larger screen and I don't hear any crackling O.o

If you do get a system with blue pixels that are noticeable, crackling speakers, or any other flaw please know almost all retailers would exchange your system free of charge. Uuuuuum, Yano I'm actually glad you asked this question. I have a pink 3DS that's in perfect condition, but I just can't imagine being able to see Animal Crossing on the tiny screen. I also watch a ton of Netflix and a bigger screen wouldn't hurt. Unfortunately I've got lady-hands, so I think a smaller system actually suits me better. I want the Animal Crossing 3DS XL edition beyond explination, but unless they bring that over, I'm going to have a hard time deciding what to do. Ah, also, if you want a good deal----

Walmart's got a deal going, for the price of the XL system you get a extra case and game included. Might be worth looking into.
I personally am going to wait until the Animal Crossing release, and see if they grace us with the Animal Crossing XL Bundle. If not... I dunno. I probably won't get the XL.

Of course if your system is wonky, I'd say go for it and get an XL. You get a bigger screen! I'd get myself an XL if I didn't already have a Aqua blue 3DS that still works like a dream (and not even a scratch on it either!). If I'd have known the XL was going to be revealed about a month or so after I bought my 3DS, I would have just waited and bought an XL instead.

I've handled 3DSes before and have my own XL and I would recommend the XL. It's very compact and very smooth. It just feels alot nicer to use.

I'd reccomend the XL. I went from the DS lite to the 3DsXL and its such a huge difference and improvement, I love it. I was worried about the weight etc before I get it but don't notice it now and I have it with me all the time. Definitely worth the extra money
