How do you pick the villagers you have? For now, I'm probably going to keep a couple of spots open for villagers to come and go, but eventually, I'd like to have a steady set of 10. The problem is that some of the villagers I really love are of personalities I already have in my town. I know you'd have to repeat one or two personalities anyway, but if it depended on me, I'd have several of the same personalities in addition to one of each of the others. I'm trying to keep things more or less balanced, but some advice and a quick reality-check would be helpful. How do you decide who's going and who's staying?

I like to balance my villagers too, so I just make a list of what villagers I want with a certain personality. Then I check in the villager forums and see which ones are available. If I have two jocks that I want for example, I just choose the one that's already available to me and then move down the list.

I just have a list who which villagers i like because some might move out accidentally and i know i can replace them with another dreamie so don't just stick to having 10 dreamies.

Same here! It was so hard only picking 10, and after awhile I thought of this. I tend to like a lot of the Normal personality villagers, so if any of the ones I have accidentally move out I can always find another to replace them. I like to have a mix of personality types just because to me it makes playing the game more fun, and they arent repeating the same things over and over again.

If Coco didn't move in, I'd have all my dreamies by now. And of course the ones i hate (villagers) never ask to move out, it's always the ones who I love.

honestly, I'm thinking of just keeping at least 2 spots "open" in my town, so to speak

I miss random move-ins of new faces when I was powerhouse cycling

of course that doesn't mean anyone could move out, and I could still try to push some villagers out faster than others

but I swear it feels like my town's just mostly stagnated while having everything just locked into a single frozen point in time, despite the ridiculous amount of tting I have done and progress that has been made (barring more pwps obtained, none town specific mind you, but still)

tl;dr need fresh air

I'm really considering rethinking my dreamie list as most of my dreamies have normal personalities & it doesn't really do much for variation. It's going to be really hard, though, as I love all of my dreamies that I have so far (only missing Marshal now) so I'll have to have a think on it for a while.

There are a few more villagers that I'd love to have in my town such as Fang (he would be the cranky) & Muffy (who could be the uchi) so the 10 villager limit is killing me as well. ;;

Honestly I just wing it. :p
I mean I like having a balance, but I always find my self ending up with more females. Probably because I just hate jocks.

I find it helps to pick one you want most from each personality and then add 2 at the end. :lemon:

Like Cuppycakez has said, it is really best to have all 8 of the different personality types and then make the last two whomever you prefer. Personally, I love uchi and snooty villagers. A good few of them look are goth-ish or punky and I adore that in my town. But this is also problematic because then I can't get other such villagers I love because there is not enough Phoebe and Cherry take up my two uchis, but I wish so baaaadly I could fit Muffy (pun intended).

I think the real hard choice is of which villager you get rid of when you get a street pass. The last villager to move in will almost never, ever ping you to move until someone else has gone. This is rough because if you have the rest of the 9 slots filled with dreamies, you will have to boot one in order to get rid of your street passed villager. Freaking sucks. ;~;

this is why I wanted to have a second town because I couldn't deal with the limitation any longer and I wanted to experience having other villagers and see how they were like having around.

What I did was write down all the villagers I wanted then I short them down by the ones I really liked and also making sure it was a one of each personality.

^ Yeah, that's a good point. It will be annoying if I keep the two last slots open for temporary villagers, decide I love the 9th one, and can't get rid of the 10th because of that. I'm guessing that it's just easier to at least rotate between villagers I know I really want, though I'm also concerned about annoying people if I adopt villagers from them and then pass them on or void them.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I really like most personalities, but for most of them, there's multiple villagers that I love. I tend to solve this by keeping myself to one villager of each when I really like a villager. For example, I love my cranky and don't want to get rid of him, so to keep his dialogue interesting and not just a repetition of what another villager says, I don't want to have another long-term cranky. The problem is that even doing that, there would still be more than one or two repeat personalities, and I can't decide which one(s) to remove from my list. :(

Writing them down sounds like a good idea, I'll do that!

I've considered getting a second town and I might do it eventually, though for now, I don't think I'd have enough time to keep up with more than one town.
