Have any of you learned something completely new successfully from Youtube?
I have heard stories of people learning how to do home repairs and things from watching youtube videos. I find that so cool and helpful. Especially if you weren't taught things that you should know or would be helpful knowing in life.

I am not "learning" tai chi per say, but I have been following the movements Helen Liang in a beginner's video (qigong) because it seems fun and like a good practice. Pretty sure I am not doing the movements correctly, but it's a start that gets you moving and stretching. Pretty sure for some things you need an instructor and I think this would be one of those things lol.
Something I do want to learn and do is gardening. I think it is good to know how to grow some food yourself and it is a habit I would like to get into. I plan on hopping onto youtube for that. Depending on how some things go this spring, It would be nice to try to grow some potatoes this year.

i've learned some things from youtube videos like i kind of know how to play the piano and i can do some embroidery but i'm not that good at either yet, hopefully i will be soon though lol

but i also learned a lot of art techniques from it since i love drawing and it actually helped, i wouldn't call myself "the best at drawing" but i can draw better than i did 2 years ago because of youtube ☆

I love going to Youtube to learn new things! Recently I learned how to use the stabilizer in Photoshop so now my linework is so smooth and flows like it does when I do traditional art. It totally changed my whole art process! Come to think of it, I think I learned how to use my Wacom tablet and every drawing software I've ever used from Youtube for probably the last 15 years or so. Or whenever Youtube came to be. Crazy!

One of the scariest things I've been faced with during lockdown is being asked to cut someone's hair. I was so worried I'd ruin it and they'd be stuck with a terrible haircut for months while it grows out. After initially freaking out I watched four or five videos on youtube and now the person never wants to go back to the salon again, haha. So useful! It was never a skill I had an opportunity to gain or watch someone do and I don't think I would have done anywhere near as good of a job without it.

Aaah can I ask what videos you watched? My dads been bugging me to cut his hair and I’m so worried I’ll ruin it 😔

As for the question - I’ve been learning to sew! I’m by no means good, lol. But I’ve been using a mix of YouTube videos and some blogs to help figure out certain things and it’s been going alright! I’ve successfully made three skirts and a dress. There’s still a lot I don’t know and if you look at the inside of my garments ... oof, lol. You’ll see that I’m new at it! But from the outside they’re passable 😂

Yep. I've watched a few videos on how to properly use tools on Krita. It helped improve my digital art and know how to use the animation tools that came with it. It's not like I became a professional, but getting the basics down was key for me to get started.

I've watched videos on how to use Krita and some drawing techniques

I've also learned how to cook a lot of different recipes and various tips and tricks in general to make cooking easier and faster

I also learned how to crochet from youtube videos

Yes. Since I can't afford guitar lessons, I use youtube and it helped a lot. I improved a lot faster than I probably would have if I had an actual instructor. Same thing for some parts of piano. I just need to learn chords (since I already knew the basics and other random things), and it's been helpful with that as well.

I also used to look up drawing videos ALL the time, and I'd say I was somewhat successful.

Yes surprisingly I have learned actual things from Youtube lol. Starting from when I was in middle school, I learned how to make embroidery bracelets, do advanced hairstyle/braiding techniques, figure skating techniques (I use to take lessons once a weekend and wanted more instruction), strats for video games, and the list goes on. In college I use to look up a bunch of cooking videos, hair cutting videos, hair dying videos, and even advanced science/biology related videos on topics I was studying for extra help. A lot of people s*** on YouTube for cringy content creators etc. but there is another informative side of YouTube that has been a huge help for me growing up and even today.

Most of my successful experiments with hair and makeup are largely in thanks to YouTube.

As well as of many of my failed experiments.

Yep! I've gone to Youtube mainly for art tips, tips on using Clip Studio Paint, and cleaning advice, and it's worked out pretty well for me so far! Youtube has also helped me in the past when I was still in school with a lot of math concepts that I was really struggling with. Also, as "call a repair person" hasn't really been much of an option for my family in the past year or so, my mom has gone to Youtube to learn to repair things herself, with good success. The scariest being when we had a swollen battery that no one in the area was willing to deal with, whew boy...

Cooking for me mainly. I've learned a lot of recipes from cooking channels. Reading recipes still leaves gaps for me but I like the fact that they demonstrate and I can pause the videos.

I learned how to do the basic knitting stitch (and I think the "backwards" one), but it's been so long since then that I'd have to go back and relearn it. Other than that, I watched so a lot of Good Eats and other cooking shows on YouTube in high school, and I think that improved my cooking skills at least a bit.

I learned how to sew mostly from youtube. Technically, I did learn back in....2006 with my 8th grade home ec class. However, my teacher and most of my classmates were awful; so I don’t know how much info I retained from that.

I do ask my mom and dad to check my projects when I’m done because they both have some knowledge in this area.

I guess some of the knots for making friendship bracelet but it was sometime ago since I did them last so idk anymore 😂

Also, hair definitely grows slower than all those buzz cut videos people put up...

I've learned multiple rainbow loom bracelet/charm designs, how to solve a rubix cube, journaling techniques, pen pal techniques, Minecraft builds, how to dye my hair, and many food recipes.

I use Youtube to find new recipes! It also helps when I knit/crochet and I need to learn a new stitch or skill. I also like learning about creature/critters/insects/fish and there are always a ton of videos that are super informative about this.

Sure have! I've learned a bunch from youtube, little things like designing logos, doing profiles, technical troubleshooting, setting up servers, gaming tips and tricks, you name it. It's very valuable for things like that, and of course for brightening a dark day with some comedy.
