stringfish question

What do you mean by third level?

As in elevation. The Town Hall/Airport are on the first level. If you climb a ladder or use 1 incline, you're on the second level. If you repeat, you'll be on the 3rd level. You can build a 4th level with Terraforming, but you're not allowed to climb up to it.

The stringfish can be found on either the 2nd or 3rd level.

I can't find a stringfish either. Sigh. I've used 80 fish bait so far. I time traveled to December and I've been looking for it at night, in my clifftop river. I have caught cherry salmon and a char from that river, so I believe it's the right type. Any other tips?

I am seeing so many pond smelt and bitterlings and dace and yellow perch. Ugh.

I just wanted to pop in here to say that I have a clifftop POND where I caught three stringfish from. Not the same day or anything, just three all together. I know the game says RIVER, but it seems that you can get it in both. Or at least I can. And I know it's a pond because... it's a pond. It's not connected to any other water. Just a crescent shaped pond. I didn't terraform it until AFTER I caught the fish, and the only terraforming I did was to change the shape to be more crescent like than it was.

IIRC, even the data miners can't really figure out how the game determines ponds. Rivers don't need to connect to the ocean to be a river. It's all down to the size and symmetry. Your pond is likely a river.

That is very weird, but I think that this poster is right. I think because the pond is crescent shape, it sort of looks thin and long, not "blocky." So the game reads it as a river instead of a pond. Which is fine, the game can read it however it wants to, but that doesn't mean that it's a river. A river is defined as a large natural stream of water flowing in a channel to the sea, a lake, or another such stream. If the water isn't flowing, isn't moving towards and "emptying" into another body of water, it's a pond. Or a lake, which is honestly just a really really big pond. So the joke's on you Animal Crossing game coders!!!
