stranger on my island and I didn't publicly list code

I never experienced that happening to me before, but I can share one weird experience I had with giving out a dodo. I gave a trader my dodo code and after the trade was done and the person left...I somehow got a switch friend request from them. I was shocked and a bit scared. I thought dodo codes were implemented so we didn't have to share friend codes?? Has this happened to anyone?

Statistically speaking, for 5 character codes, A-Z and 0-9, that would make it 33 ^ 5 possible codes (I,O,Z excluded from Dodo Codes).
And yes, while it is very unlikely, it's not impossible. Look at the lottery for example.
I'm not saying that they 100% guessed the code by chance or that the person 100% shared the code either. Who knows, maybe there was a glitch in the system. But you should honestly never rule out the odds.
A shock for sure for OP, but at least nothing major happened. It didn't seem like a "prank" to me either per se, just a "What is happening and what am I doing here?" moment.
I suppose it could be some kind of a glitch in which a player ends up on the wrong Island.
But I have heard of some other similar cases (one involving a thief actually and the other one similar to this) which is why I would not find it surprising.
We don't really know who the other people behind the screen are. For all we know, they could be middle school kids who would find that sort of thing funny.

when someones visits you, it actually shows them and their switch profile as a recent person you played with so you can add/block/report. :]

I think that's why you can request dodo codes specifically for friends or best friends, because those dodo codes can't be accessed by strangers accidentally.

Once I did something like this, but I was trying to get to a friends island, not dodo code. I wasn't paying attention and I just clicked the text very fast, but when I was arriving..... It wasn't the right island. Someone else in my friend list had the gates opened,,, It was so weird bc I didn't know who they were and they didn't know who I was, but after talking I realized we met each other on twitter an exchanged friends code a while before that 😅

If the code system is as bad as Pokemon Sword/Shield, then you can't trust the codes for one moment. I remember trying to trade with people in S/S and getting random people instead. With Animal Crossing the code system is actually very convenient, but with Pokemon it was completely unecessary as you HAD to use generated codes to trade with anyone, including your friends.

I'm not saying this is the case, but I've heard that some people share codes with their friends for things like turnips and celeste so they don't need to line up on sites like turnip exchange. Also, scamming but doesn't really look like what happened so I'm not too sure why this happened. Maybe others are right where the random person just inputted a string of random numbers and letters and just visited random people?

Maybe it is a random person and not related to the person you traded with? I think they would have taken the items if it was a scam but since they didnt, i would give the other person the benefit of the doubt. If they were friends they could have just catalouged the items from the person that was set to trade with you instead of doing all of this.

I reckon the guy couldn't get to your island for whatever reason, so asked a friend to catalog for him. Hence why the guy who visited knew exactly what to do.

If that's the case it's definitely not cool as he should have at least explained the situation to you before doing it.
