No they aren't. Clone troopers were bred with Jango Fett's genetic make-up, but it was tampered to make them more soldier like and less likely to act like normal beings. They were then trained and drilled on Kamino like robots are programmed. Stormtroopers, on the other hand, were real people that were drafted into the Imperial Academy or some went on their own accord. The only clones that were Stormtroopers were those left over after the Clone Wars, but they soon died out, mainly because they had accelerated life cycles.

In my opinion, clones are cooler because of the diversity of colors, weapons, vehicles, etc. However, it's unfair to judge it that way because the movie making technology was so different in the 2000s compared to the 1970s (and 80s). If the 4,5,6 (with stormtroopers) were remade then I believe that they could show that era's proper technology, because the Star Wars universe didn't lose technology between 3 and 4, but in fact they most likely made new technology.

Yes, the technology issue was always a big issue with the fans, but the reason the Stormtroopers aren't colorful is because the whole thing about the Empire is that they want to impose fear on you. To them, fear meant control. Also, the stormies have diverse weapons, and vehicles, it's just that they didn't show them in the movies.

I did a little research and found that some of them were Jango clones, some of them were other clones, and some of them were just recruited soldiers. So it's a mix.

Well, yeah, but the Jango clones died out quickly after the Clone Wars and the Rise of the Empire because of their accelerated lives. The Spaarti clone canisters completely slipped my mind, but yes, they did have clones, but they were spread few and far between, and their training processes were extremely different.
