i’ve caught the majority of the rare fish available this month - barreleye, stringfish, coelacanth, etc. the only one i’m missing is the golden trout lol
I caught a coelacanth this morning, but I've caught quite a few oarfish, knifejaws and snappers too. I saw a method on YT for finding sturngeons whereby you visit a Nook Miles island with an outlet into the sea and, similarly to tarantula hunting, you clear every fish except the river mouth spawns. That way, when it's a large shadow, it's almost guaranteed to be a sturngeon. I'm yet to try this though.
I've caught all the fish for March. I think the rarest (or hardest to catch) had to be the Stringfish due to the amount of bait I had to use (close to 100, although I've heard stories of people using upwards of 300).
I got a little lucky with barreleye I think. I ran up and down the beach for about an hour or two and one spawned.
I must be lucky because I got the Stringfish on my second bait and the Coalacanth without any bait. I also got the Oarfish, Sturgeonfish, and the Barreleye multiple times
i've gotten all the fist set to go away at the end of this month so i would say the hardest for me to find and catch was the stringfish. the other "march" fish were pretty easy for me to find naturally, but i had to really work to find the stringfish. also it has barely rained on my island so no coelacanth yet ):
I never caught a barreleye on my island I caught it on my northern hemisphere friend's island. Most annoying fish for me was definitely the giant trevally. I've had a lot of luck with both the golden trout and the dorado appearing in my town as far as high value fish go.
Stringfish/oar fish/tuna/sturgeon. Still can’t get a golden trout for some reason lol, and I’m on the hunt for the elusive Coelacanth but just need the right weather.
