This is weird cause I got 10 Special stumps from pure guessing a few minutes ago!
Or Is it because I had a silver axe? I dunno, cause this never happened to me before, lol.

silver axes give you special stumps every time, or at least 99.9% of the time. I was really surprised when I used one for the first time! ​

Yeah, the silver axe lasts around twice as long as a regular axe, I think. Whatever it is, it's not all that long.

The best method for farming special stumps is to hit each tree with a golden axe twice then once with the silver axe so you get three times as many special stumps before it breaks. You won't want stumps all over the place though so you should be fine.

uh, i'm pretty sure it's more than twice...the max is 136 uses. but i think they're pretty cheap at the island shop, so if you find one you can just buy them in bulk or something.

Wish I did...I have a gold axe now and still only got one special stump in my town I'm really wanting the triforce (pretty sure that a kind is stump) so it can be on display
I know the silver axe is the best one for getting these stumps though, I guess you're lucky as well as having a good axe

Here's a tip to make your silver axe last longer: Use a regular or golden axe twice and then use the silver axe to make the final chop. You'll get the special stump pattern and you will have only used the silver axe once instead of three times.

if the last swing is made with a silver axe the stump will be special. sOo you can save your durability on your silver axes by using a regular or golden axe for the first two swings, and then take out your silver axe before swinging the last time ;;

I never knew the silver axe had such power!!! I just got the golden axe in my first game copy and have been using it instead of the silver (didn't know silver gave patterned stump and also didn't want it to break). I guess once I've finalized my towns layout, I'll be using the stump making axe to create stumps in specific location.

The silver axe always gives you a specail pattern if it is use as the 3rd hit. Use regular or gold axe for the first 2 hits.
Also, if you are wanting a certain special pattern, open your gate and then try for the special pattern. If you get want you want, close the gate and Save & Continue. If you don't get the pattern you want, throw the wi-fi switch. Everything will go back pre-opening the gate and you can try again.
