I think it's cool, if you're dedicated and willing to put in the effort, then it makes the end result way more worthwhile! And it helps that you found someone to trade with that was nice. I find a lot of people outside of this website are kind of huge jerks, so another absolutely shockign part of this story is that the person you traded with was actually nice and understanding haha!
I've been thinking a lot about how there isn't an ABD in ANCH (yet?) and how disturbing that is!
Did they do this to torture us? Perhaps.
Did you landscape a magnificent shrine around Raymond's house yet?

Aww! You're too kind. TBH, this is one of the moments I felt proud of! It's not as great as island hopping for Raymond but the astronomical luck I had with a true and honest seller...I think it's something I can be happy about! I was gonna link the thread where it happened but I realized r/AdoptMyVillager is now gone...
I did still have the chat log though! You have no idea how I was so filled with joy when he chose me as Raymond's adopter!
I did the campsite trick for him. I wanted to see whether I would vibe with him or not (as the kids say, lmao), and because there are so few smug villagers that I find cute... but as a cat person, I figured I should give him a chance. We had a good week or two but ultimately, I wasn't feeling my island overall; I ended up selling him to someone who loved him a lot more than I did, and that sale enabled me to find a good amount of my dreamies after I reset my island the following day.
I highly recommend the campsite method for anyone who's looking for a specific popular villager but would rather not grind/buy the tickets for them. Worked like a charm, though it did take a lot of time.

I don't have him now but I had him twice before. I'm currently on my third and hopefully last island.
I first met him while island hopping for starter villagers, he was on a bamboo island i remember. And the second island, he was my forced smug. While I love Raymond a lot, I'm not too devastated over losing him in my reset. I really believe it is all luck though, if you get him yourself. If i get him a third time, I will absolutely poop my pants. But I don't think I will lol.

Yeah! I think the reason this is so memorable for me is the person could just blocked and ran away with my bells around my 43rd trip (halfway) but he was like, we'll get through it together! How can I not respect him? He willingly endured 16 hours with me! That's amazing...I was like...so determined not to let him down.
ALSO YEAH. WHY DON'T WE HAVE AN ABD APP? IF WE CAN HAVE NOOK SHOPPING APP ONLINE BANKING SHOULDN'T BE HARD EITHER?
Oh! I'm doing more than that, I'm making a joint lawn with him and Marshal! I'm going to make it pretty for sure!

I know! I've heard a ton of Raymond horror stories and my guard was so up LOL but I eased up when he let me have Raymond after the 30th trip. At that moment, this was up to me. I could just run away with Raymond (at least, the chance of being the bad person was me now since I have Raymond.) My priority was now to properly deliver the bells without giving anxiety to the seller. I made sure I updated him for any breaks or meals (we're in a different timezone so that's very crucial!)
I think the proper communication really helped both of us ease up. I also tipped and gave his daughter goodies as thanks! (His daughter had Raymond!)
It should be a thing. I can not tell you how many times I joined a "buying from someone else's Nook store + Able's only to have 0 money and have to return to the island AGAIN and have to endure the cutscene AGAIN" moments...

My bf and I had spent about a week looking for this elusive cat. We originally began hunting him via the mystery islands. After over 300 trips between the both of us, we didn't get him. However, I did get Audie and Sherb, and my bf managed to get Judy, so it wasn't a total loss!
I then began to try the campsite method. I spent an entire day trying the campsite method and didn't get a single villager to visit the campsite. This was a time when the campsite was bugged (which has since been patched). It works much, much better now.
After failing both of those methods, I decided to try the random move-in method (very similar to New Leaf). I had done it 7 or 8 times and had a smug villager move in every time, so it was only a matter of time of getting him with that method.
However... My wonderful trooper of a boyfriend decided to help me with this method too since it was working: a smug moved in each time. He moved out Phil and Curlos, then began the method. His first random move in was Chadder. After moving him out, his second random move in was Raymond! The long and tiresome hunt was over. He ended up giving me both Raymond and Judy! /totally spoiled

I bought a 2nd switch just for him and I reset my 2nd island only twice and got him as my first camper, after he left to my main town I found him while island hopping again in my second town so I gave the double to my sis, I ended up selling him in my main town for nmt and I went island hopping and on the 9th ticket I found him a THIRD time. So yea I found him a lot

I island hopped for him, took about 12 or 13 tickets. In general I seem to be lucky this go around obtaining villagers I want, whereas in my New Leaf days I had to regularly stalk the villager trade for anyone that I wanted.
I got him through campsite cycling! I went through 82 villagers to get Stitches and decided that I would try to go for Raymond after. I got him after 7 more villagers. He was SO annoying to invite in though, it took forever to get him to bring up moving in and then he would reject me a lot or if he'd play the card game I would either lose and have to start over again or I'd win and he'd pick someone that I didn't want to move out. It took an hour just to get him in lmao.
