While the primary motivation for disabling the interest was the abuse we noticed; there was definitely a feeling of generally not wanting that many bells to be obtainable from literally pressing one button every 24 hours. As others have pointed out, you could obtain an absurd amount from doing practically nothing, and only for those who are already obscenely rich. The system was never originally designed with the idea of users possibly having so many bells. So it was phased out for this reason as well, not just the abuse.

The only way interest in its previous form would return is if it was a more progressive system with either diminishing returns or a daily cap. There are other possibilities that are a little different than interest and would offer a suitable replacement too. But that's for another day.
