GO KOEHLER! YOU'RE ON MY TOP LIST OF PEOPLE ON TBT!
gah my point is that Obama probably said something about not believing the Bible to be true because of things like this, and may be the fact that many stories are told in a pretty unrealistic way, that I don't think were meant to be taken literally. Artists use lies to reveal truth and that is what I see in the Bible. My point still stands.
So, you think Adam and Eve, Noah, Jesus, Paul, Revelation and the rest are just parables? Or just make up stories? Uh no, a real Christian believes the Bible for the truth, not just some book made to entertain with good-moraled stories!
I wouldn't say entertain so much as teach tradition and values.
There are 2 creation stories that happen in different ways.
Actually it's just the same one twice. The second time it has more detail.
Noah could not have gotten 2 of every animal unless he could somehow circle the globe several times.
It's called God. God can do whatever he wants including a measly task of bring two of every kind of animal to the ark (7 of certain species). Remember also that Adam named ALL the animals so he must have had them all them nearby.
Now there could have been a big flood in the area but not global. The story is exaggerated a little for effect. We do that in movies based off of real events all the time. But the point of that story is God's promise to rejuvenate the world, the cleansing of the evil. Not that some old guy actually filled a large wooden ship with 2 of everything for what must have been the worst 40 days of his life.
God promised to kill of every person except those few on the ark. How could he do that without a huge flood? When the Bible says global it means global.
Now Jesus, I think was definitely real, but I don't think he was God. Making the trinity was a compromise between people who said he was a man and those who said he was a God or so my theology taught. So now that makes Jesus a God who is a man and talks to himself to see whether he has to go through with his death or not. He was no doubt a good man as he was described.
All scripture is God-breathed which means it's 100% true. God wrote the book (not literally but he inspired the men who wrote it) and he himself says there is a holy trinity and that Jesus WAS God.
Many stories in the Bible, in the old testament especially though, are likely just parables like Jesus told.
This is what I believe and call me unchristian for it, but I think being a Cristian is more about following Jesus' lessons and less about whether an old guy stuffed a ton of animals on a ship, or another raised dead or another saved his people from Egypt only after God released a ton of plagues that seemed a little bit cruel....
Those plagues are very important in understanding Passover and other stuff mentioned later in the New Testament. Plus, each plague was symbolic against a specific Egyptian god, thus proving God was more powerful than them.
