so, my mom got animal crossing

Your mom is so cute! That was really endearing to read.

My mom has never, would never and will never have an interest in video games. Animal Crossing could theoretically be the one that she might possible potentially be able to even understand the basic concepts of, but even as I type that it's absurd - there's just no way.

Maybe your mom should have a labyrinth filled with walls of fish! It would certainly be unique and that way she can keep her fishies around and not give them to the museum. xD

And yeah, I agree with the person who suggested your mom write a blog about her adventures. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to read it! :D

I gotta say that's pretty wholesome. My mom often sees me playing the game and at one point wanted to play the game as well, but somehow i didn't let her play it, for reasons

Reminds me of when I let my mum start a town on my spare memory card on the GameCube version! She was the same way, she has never touched video games before or since.

She thought it was absolutely hilarious the way the animals talked, and she really liked Rover, but I think unfortunately the controls just didn't really click with her and she stopped playing :(

I'm glad your mum is enjoying the game :D

Your mother is adorable! I kind of wish my mother would play. Especially now with the quarantine, it would be a fun way for us to spend some time together.

Please keep us updated on your mom's play.

Bcat, you should keep a running commentary on your dad, as well. Both of them are so cute!

The dead seagull quote is hilarious. I hope she continues to enjoy the game. She will get used to Nook taking all the money.

I totally adore this!! Also it's awesome to see gaming, and Animal Crossing, from the point of view of someone totally new to gaming! I second the other comments and would love your mum to make a journal, or you to help her/make one on her behalf <3

a little back story behind this is that my sister, my brother, and I all play animal crossing. my mom is obsessed with fish, especially gold fish. she loves animals in general, but fish has a special place in her heart. every morning she talks to her fish and she even has names for them. continuing on, she saw i was fishing quite awhile ago and i caught a goldfish. she freaked out. my mother, has NEVER been interested in games before, but when i tell you she went running to my dad to buy her the “cute animal game that you can fish in” she did exactly just that. now, we were all worried if my dad were to buy her it. she wouldn’t actually progress and literally just hoard fish all over her town. well a few days ago it was mother’s day. i woke up to my mom yelling at me, “PEACHESANDICECREAM I UPGRADED MY HOUSE AND I HAVE THREE BUTTERFLIES AND-“ yep. my dad did it. he bought her not only a switch, but also her horizons. a few days in she plays all the time.

some cute things that she said:
“this crooked mr nook keeps taking my money”
“why is there a dead seagull on my beach”
“i tried catching these weird cracks on the floor with my net, but nothing is happening?”
“do i HAVE to donate the fish? can i just keep them with me?”
“why do you and your siblings evict the ugly villagers? i like the ugly villagers. give the ugly villagers to me”

honestly the list goes on and on. my favorite thing that happened just today is that me and my sister tried to give her fruit to start an orchard. she ate it all. every single one. because apparently she would starve to death and she would be “damned if she died in debt to mr nook.” honestly growing up never seeing my mom touch a video game to now loving animal crossing is the most wholesome and cute thing i’ve seen in awhile. i thought that you guys would enjoy my small adorable asian mother and her conquest to get every fish in the game while thwarting mr nook and his hustling schemes <3

This completely made my WEEK!

Can't wait to know her reaction when she sees how the museum's aquarium looks like after you've donated a bunch of fish hahaha
i showed her today my museum. she asked me if she could live in there instead of her house :’)

I wish I had parents or siblings that played games of some kind. It'd give me and my family some kind of common ground.
my family is really into video games, but there’s only a few that we all play similarly. my brother, sister, mom, and me all play animal crossing now. what’s funny is we all have COMPLETELY different playing styles and it’s hilarious to watch. do none of your family have any interest in games?

None of 'em are really into gaming much. My parents have never touched one (and I've asked before) and of the two brothers: one is not very close to me and mostly plays physical games (TCGs, DnD, etc) which I'm not very into and the other is a long story. Suffice to say the latter, despite similar interests, doesn't play much anymore nor would hanging around them be the greatest idea. I'm sad to say I actually only know one person (and they're non-family) who actually plays somewhat regularly and things I like. I've always been pretty envious of these "family members that love gaming!1!" types of posts all over social media.

lol too cute! My dad has a character on Our Island. Since he's working from home now due to quarantine, we've been playing via local multiplayer every day on his lunch break. These sessions usually consist of him running around catching bugs and fish and me following behind clapping every time he catches one. He's caught a few things I haven't gotten yet, so he's contributing to the museum too! He always gives me his message-in-a-bottle and all the balloons he shoots down! He says that they're my reward for babysitting him lol.

He's not really into gardening (I don't think he's even made a watering can) but he likes to decorate his house and yard, and he's constantly dressing himself in the weirdest outfits he can find, usually involving goggles and something bright yellow. Here's some of my favorite quotes from him:

"If I press 'a' again is it going to talk to me? I don't want to talk to it." -after being introduced to Timmy and Tommy.
"Look at him! He's still going strong. He needs to take a break." -referring to Octavian working out on the beach.
"How do I do my emojis again?" -so that he could clap for Marina while she was singing.
"The duck is LEAVING? Did you know that? Did you want him to leave?" -in a scandalized tone after discovering I booted out Derwin for Fauna.
"Quit TALKING TO ME" -every time he goes in to the dressing room.
"They're selling a bunch of snot today."-after finding nothing he liked in said dressing room
"There's daredevil." -every time he sees Mira. Her catchphrase is now "daredevil"
"Quit being mean to the bird, I like him." -referring to Keaton, who I kicked out for Diana. I don't think he's noticed yet/

UPDATE: He’s discovered that Keaton is gone and he’s not happy. He hates Diana and had some very choice words about it. The conversation went something like this:

Him: “There’s something about Diana that I just don’t like. She’s a snob.”
Me: “You know she replaced the bird, right?”
Him: “...he’s gone? You got rid of the eagle??? But he made IRON FURNITURE.”
Me: “Diana makes iron furniture too. She just did it the other day!”
Him, grumbling: “I can’t believe I didn’t notice the eagle was gone...”
LATER
Him: “Yeah, you made a bad trade kicking out the eagle for that thing. Just don’t get rid of any of the octopi or the daredevil.”
Me: “It’s ok! I won’t get rid of any of them. They’re never allowed to leave.”
Him: :)
Me: :)
