When someone is pushed by comments like that to kill themselves, their death is hardly by their own hand. "You should commit suicide" isn't "just an expression", no matter what faux-friendly tone you put under it.

Don't ****ing joke about suicide. I tolerate a lot. Different opinions? Fine. But not taking suicide seriously is one thing I will NEVER tolerate.

I've been hospitalized 5 times due to suicidal reasons, and if I was in a bad mindset and saw multiple people saying this crap, it would affect me badly.
