I'm wondering whether or not I should time travel a day or two forward to get my town development permit done (I just reset), but I don't want it to feel like I'm cheating the game. What do you guys think I should do?

I would only travel forward if you aren't worried about loosing a villager or if a villager recently asked to move and you declined. I TT not as often as most, but it isn't a big deal for me.

I have spoken to many people who wanted to play this game legit but got a little impatient, skipped forward for a moment and afterwards they lost all enjoyment from playing.

If you don't think you'll be like this, then go right ahead. But it is a risk.

Woah, if that is a risk then I don't think I'll TT xD

Time travelling isn't cheating. It's playing the game at your own pace. It's your game, you do with it as you wish. In your situation I'd say don't time travel. The only reason you're thinking of time travelling is because you're getting impatient, and you also think time travelling is cheating. I think you might regret it later if you do decide to time travel.

Don't do it. It's good having reasons to look forward to tomorrow. Work on something else or play another game in the meantime, you'll survive just fine.

Do it if you want to. It doesn't really matter what other people think :p

If you're just going forward a day it's not a risk. TTing back (which counts as a day forward) might be a bit riskier but you could deny a villager's request to move before going back or stay in that day until real time catches up. 1-2 days is not a big difference so unless you haven't talked to your villagers before TTing, it will be just like playing on that day and then going back the next day.

Do you have a full set of villagers yet? If you have less than 8 it's not a risk since nobody will move out.

TTing is only cheating if it feels that way to you. There is no right or wrong way to play, just what you think is fun. If you think it would be more fun to time travel to get your permit, go for it. If you'd have more fun waiting, that's great too. You also don't have to time travel every time after doing it once, so you can just time travel to get your permit and never do it again. Just ask yourself what you'd feel comfortable with.

I say go for it, since you just reset I assume it's the first or second day. There's really nothing to do then after getting the first debt done, plus you don't have villagers move out until you get the island, since really there's no downside.

You could argue that not having reasons to look to the future is something of a downside. In the "NOW NOW NOW!" society we live in, it's nice to have something that strolls along at a more leisurely pace. Patience is a noble virtue and something we could all use a bit more of. I say keep it real.

It's a game. If the game becomes a task, then it's not fun.
It's your game, do what you want.
