Should I play Yo-Kai Watch 1 before Playing 2?

These Games look super cool! But I can't decide if I should play 1 before 2. I have watched the first episode of the anime (I can't seem to find the rest with english subtitles) and I have played both demos. Will I be missing out on story stuff or just general character and game info if I don't play the 1st game?

I kind of want to play the first game first, but I don't want to miss the hype train with the 2nd game coming out tomorrow! Also I saw that they are adding some new gameplay features to the second one, and I'm worried that if I play the 2nd game first that I won't want to play the 1st one anymore.

Also I know the physical versions come with medals and the digital versions come with robo and sailor jibanyan, but are those pre-order items only? or do those come with the game no matter when you buy it?

Thoughts and comments are much appreciated!

In my opinion, when it comes to games with sequels like this, it is best to play them in the order the story goes. So I would say playing the first Yo-kai game is best. But if you were more hyped for the second one than the first one, I recommend getting the second one even if it may leave you with some confusions. Personally, I'd get the first Yo-Kai game. I'm unsure if they give something for having played Yo-Kai first and then yo-kai 2.

Thanks for the advise! I ended up getting the first game and I love it so far! I was hoping the price would have been cheaper since the 2nd game is out, but oh well.

I would too. I haven't played the 1st game yet. I may get #2 for Christmas. I would play 1 first if you want to follow the story. I know its been asked already, but whatev's.

It happens, bud. You just wanted to help even though it was a little late. Although I am glad to hear Crossing-mama is enjoying Yo-Kai now. ;)

omg i just bought it the other day and have already sunk like 8+ hours
it's soooo good
i was worried it would be super grind-y like pokemon which tbh i'm not a fan of, but i love that the fighting is more interactive!

if you can't find subs, i would definitely recommend the dub of the anime! i usually hate dubs but the voice acting is really good, and the show itself is super cute and funny!

sorry i am just a yo-kai fangirl aha

Why does everyone think pok?mon is super grindy? ^^; It's not grindy. You just probably don't have a well balanced team or skipped too many battles or don't use super effective moves. i mean pok?mon is just as grindy as Yo-kai from what I played.

Yo-kai watch 2 doesn't really reference the plot of yo-kai watch 1 that much. You can go right into the second game, the only thing you'll miss out on if you skip the first game is being able to get Komasan, Noko, and Buchinyan.
