I'm new to town planning, so can someone help me out?
I just reset my map, and this is the one i've come up with. I have some potential paths marked out and x's for negatives. The gray splotches are rocks (Thought one may be the gem rock??)
Pros:
? Close together Re-Tail, Plaza, and Town Hall
? Re-Tail pretty close to dock
? Lil wetsuit island in upper corner :D
? Can make a path straight down from train station to Re-Tail
Cons:
? Pond in between Re-Tail and Town
? Small sliver of land in upper left corner that i know will never get used D; (big pet peeve of mine)
? Not much open space.
? Peaches (My last 2 towns had peaches and I'm sick of em')
? Brown Train station

What do you think, could I do better or should I settle down here?

I can barely see the river of your map...so you think you could take a brighter picture? I think it looks good though, there's plenty of room and the river is symmetrical.

I like the space you have on the bottom half of the river to the very left and to the very right.. As for the top half, I'm not quite a fan of it. I used to like the strips of land on the top left/top right, so I had something like that on my old town..then I learned it's not that -great- and there's not too much to do with it besides put a camp and a few trees, maybe a house? But if you get a house to be there, you can't really landscape in front of it in the future-

Everywhere else has really good potential, so I'd go with it if the top doesn't bother you. Sorry if I'm not much help!

That lighting tho.

But from what I can see I wouldn't go for it, everything looks so bunched together.

I'd totally keep that map if i came across it in my game :D

How can you not see the river? On my screen, I can see it very clearly o_O

The lighting overall is very dark on my iPad. It might be different if you're on a laptop though.

I like your map. The placement of Re-Tail is convenient if you'll be beetle hunting often and the town plaza is placed very nicely in the middle. The fact that all the important buildings are close together gives you a bit more space for public works projects and such.
I really like the river shape and I'm sure the strips of land at the top of the map can be used for something small.

It's an interesting map.

I am late to commenting; but, if you did keep it, you would need to be imaginative with how you handle the more limited space in the northern half of the town. The far east and west sides, in the northern half, may be ideal for the cedar and sapling trees. The lower part of the northern half can be for human house (adjacent to each other) … or they be a themed area (for whatever springs to your mind).

It looks like it could be an interesting challenge. And that, if you're up for it, it could become a town with an interesting future.

Thanks guys! I've been convinced to keep it :P I'm gonna try to work out something to do with that limited northern half :o

Ack,

I'm glad you're keeping it.

The northern half can be used for a particular purpose. For example: perhaps you would want to showcase flowers, like with a Flower Clock, with the Topiaries.

Whatever you have in mind...it may be really cool. And that you will really be rewarded with selecting this new town.
