Animal crossing has been my favorite game for almost 5 years now, ever since I purchased new leaf back when I was in just 5th grade. I've been playing it ever since and it has always been my go-to game when I was stressed or bored.

I've been wanting to get an amiibo for the past year, but I never really seemed to have enough money to buy them. However, now that my birthday is coming up, Ican finally purchase a couple!

Before I buy them, what are the benefits of using amiibo in acnl? What can you do with them in-game? Also, is there a difference between the npc amiibo and the villager amiibo? Thanks :)

By difference, do you mean the figures or the amino cards, or a different game? If you want the cards and the figures, you need a reader for them.

Well, for the villager ones you can move them into your town and boot out the ones you don’t want. For NPC Amiibo cards, you can get their picture the first time you scan them (per character) which is cool if you want them or are a collector/completionist. For WA RV cards, you invite their RVs to your campsite to order exclusive items. And when you scan any Amiibo card or figure, you get 5 MEOW coupons per day.

The animal crossing amiibo villager cards, which have 4 sets of 100 cards for each series released, are definitely worth getting specially if you want full control over who you want in your town, and the sets also come with the special NPCs who will give you their picture when they're scanned(which is the only difference between those and the villager cards, the villager ones are only used to move them in). The villager cards individually can cost between $1 up to $25 depending on villager popularity but the NPC cards are pretty cheap. With the AC amiibo figurines you can invite some special NPC's to your campground and you can obtain some rare special items from them you can't find anywhere else, and they're pretty cheap due to overstock, I got the full set of AC amiibo figurines for $20. Then the camper amiibo series cards there are 50 total and feature some AC villagers that have been long forgotten since the first game. You can scan those and they will come to your campground. They can either sell you exclusive items that you can't find anywhere else or you can have them move into your town. The set is pretty rare today and the full set depending on the region can set you back between $80 to $100 depending on where you look. Then there is the rarest set of Amiibo cards, the sanrio x animal crossing amiibo card set. The set contains 6 cards and feature themed villagers representing a few of the Sanrio line of characters(Hello Kitty, PomPomPurin, My Melody, Cinnamoroll, KeroKeroKeroppi, and Kiki & Lala). All these characters are super cute and super rare and if you want the full set it can set you back between $200 and $360, however each card is worth about $35 to $50 depending on where you look. Overall I would say if you want some control over your towns, get some super rare items, or even add some rare stuff to your collection, the amiibo sets are worth it, to me anyway. I have the full set of RV cards, all 6 Sanrio cards and a complete series 1 set, and will obtain series 2, 3 and 4 very soon. And with Animal Crossing Switch coming next year and sure to have heavy Amiibo integration the same way New Leaf is doing it now, it's best to get them now. Prices are ok for right now but who knows if they're gonna go up, Nintendo has haulted all amiibo card production, so your best bet is to go through Ebay which I did to find them. Happy hunting my friend.

Thank you so much!!! This was so helpful

Another note is that once the online's disconnected, you'll always have those items available to you too.
Collecting them in general is pretty fun also, but the former is a pretty good reason to try to get your hands on them.

Most people have probably answered but just generally:
> You can use some non-AC amiibos like Zelda or splatoon
> You must have a New 3ds/2ds or a old 3ds NFC reader/writer
> You get Wisp and he grants you one wish per day. You must have the lamp in your house to work with extra space for Wisp to spwan
> there are the figures (Like Nook, Blathers etc) and there are the villager cards
> You can usually find Villager cards on ebay or kijiji. Rare ones go for $20+ but you can find a lot of sellers selling for $1 each. I got 12 rare cards for $1 each on Kijiji.
> There are MANY Fakes on the market especially on etsy because Amiibos use a common NFC chip that is accessible to anyone. Please be careful when buying and make sure you're buying legitimate ones.

How it works:
> After updating you get Wisp.
> You call wisp and scan an amiibo
> Regular villagers can be asked to move in (16 villager cycle not required. If a villager moves out, you can move them back immediately.) This is the primary use for normal amiibos
> Regular villagers can give you random items once a day instead
> Scanning Welcome Amiibo or standard NPCs like Blathers will allow them into your RV campsite where you can buy their stuff. Welcome Amiibo villagers have items to buy but also can be moved in.
> You can also use the amiibo camera
> You can also play puzzle League or Island Escape with Amiibos instead of play coins.

They're nice collectables tbh. I have some coveted ones (Marshal, Wolfgang, Lolly, Maple, Lobo, Zucker, Stitches) that I got for only $1. Look around before buying packs. You'll probably get some cheap <3 Keep in mind, some cards usually sell for $20+.

Amiibos are best used for moving people in without waiting 16 villages to get them back or buying RV items tbh. It's up to you if you think it's worth it. :)

I have a few fake amiibo cards and I don't mind paying less for fakes to get the villagers I want. Nothing wrong with buying custom made stuff. As long as you know they're fakes with the villager's NFC chip inside and they're not trying to scam you and making you believe it's real, then I don't see a problem.
