I'm talking about children under the age of ten.

I notice that a lot of kids, even kids as young as five, have their own iPhones, iPads, etc. I don't think kids that young should have their own iPhones. I think it's okay for kids to sometimes play on their parents electronics, but I don't think they really need their own, especially at the age of five or younger. What is a five year old doing that they need a smart phone? Now, with a ten year old it makes more sense. I still don't think they should start out with an iPhone, but I can at least understand why a ten year old would maybe have one.

I don't think it matters either way, but the Internet specifically gives kids an outlet to learn, about all sorts of things. I think they just shouldn't be on social networks until maybe 13. A lot of social networks already have that in place, though.

No.

I didn't have a cell phone until I turned 19 and had a full time job.

I think a computer is good enough for kids.

no, dafuq are they gonna do with it, call mickey mouse???!!

i have one but i'm in middle school. i got it so i can keep in contact with my parents when i'm away from them.

If their parents are super loaded and money won't be a problem then why not. Just put parental controls on there and it's fine.

Who cares

No because kids are brats and don't deserve anything unless they prove themselves otherwise.

No
I'm almost 13 and I've never had a phone.

No, they should have Androids.

I didn't get a phone until the second trimester of my senior year of high school. My mom thought it was pointless for me to have one until I started alternative school. After that it just became another thing she could "take away".

Tbh I think kids shouldn't get phones until they're in high school.

Nope, I'm 16 and never have had an iPhone or any type of smartphone.

No, kids would probably be irresponsible with it or have a temper and break it.

I am 19 and still have yet to get a phone.

I didn't have a phone until I was 17. I think a child growing dependencies on smart phones is probably going to affect them. It might be wiser to wait until more research comes out on the subject. But, @OP, if smart phones were more popular at the time you were younger, you probably would have had or at least wanted one.

I didn't get my first phone till I was like 14. During the time I played video games on the game cube, PlayStation, and occasionally went outside the majority of the time.

i don't see why not, just be sure you keep an eye on them. i do think its necessary for kids to have phones, especially if they're out a lot because they cant take care of themselves for sht if something goes wrong. with younger kids at the age of six, however, they should be more limited if given a phone. for kids in general, i'd give them old, crappy phones that can't compare to phones these days, but still work for calling and texting. i'd say being given a phone when i was twelve prevented me from falling behind in plans that my friends would make and the likes. i never called people when i first had it, but i'm grateful for it just because my social life didnt completely die away, and my parents had a more direct way of contacting me. plus, i'm sure they'd want a decent source of music to listen to while they're out

I didn't have a cell phone until maybe 15. However, those were different times. It was then that cell phones began to become a big thing (2004ish). Today, not having a cell phone is weird.

I don't have children, and I'm not around children regularly, so I really don't know what the standard or right thing is. However, personally I would like my hypothetical child to have some way of contacting me at any time. That's just the way I am, my parents had me walk home from school in middle school. It wasn't a very long distance, but still... things can happen, and I think I'd feel a little better about something like that if they had a phone on them at all times.

...But again, I repeat, I've never raised a child.

i dont think kids should have iphones but who gives a **** if they have an ipad or tablet

in my opinion heres what kids should have:

Kids under like 12 or 11 should get like a flip phone just to call or text because kids under that shouldn't really need to use a iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy to watch YouTube or whatever since they have tabets since kids under this age mostly have tablets.
