I'm 11 and have an IPod for games and online things like forums for online games I play. I don't have a Phone because I simply, don't need it. I don't think kids under ten should have phones because they DONT need it! They probroblly can't even remember their parents number! They can have an IPod for games, but not a Phone for calling.

I'm 12 and I have an iPod, but that's only for games. I don't have an iPhone, but I do have an older version of a Huawei phone (keypad one) that I use to keep in touch with my parents if they're late picking me up or something. That's all you really need.
Yeah.. I have my old Nokia with buttons that's sturdy af considering how much I drop it and stuff lol and it lasted me 5 years soon. But yeah I pretty much only use it to text and call and it's good enough if you only do that and it works fine. As I said I never cared much for apps, even when I had a smartphone the only app I had was like the one to check public transport stuff lol.
And yeah if they need a phone at such young ages, give them something old they can "drop" without the screen instantly breaking. In a way I'm glad I grew up without those smartphones for the most part.

I strongly agree with you. I don't think that we should provide them with such expensive devices. Phones are just toys for them and they don't understand the importance of using them with accuracy.
I didn't have such a device in my childhood and I wasn't suffering of this. Of course, I didn't know about them, but if I had even known it wouldn't have been a problem I think.
Yeah, and as many people posted about it only gives them that they can instantly ask for a new one when they "break" it (or they do on purpose). And I certainly don't like the culture of having these phones just to take stupid pictures and be with the "in" crowd that has like all the social media and their lives revolving around that. And it only teaches them to glue their nose to the phone.
As for gaming thing I prefer a quality console like a 3ds or something older if you want to start playing stuff(maybe not 3ds as their first console cause they are a bit costy as well, but still).
I definitely think that an emergency cell phone is good for any child old enough to be hanging out without their parents, but TBH, I think that kids having an iPhone is too much. As a person who uses the computer for probably over 7 hours a day at minimum, I'm not one of those "technology is ruining our youth!!" people, but I do think that kids deserve to learn to enjoy nature and the outdoors and make-believe with toys and stuff. It may be okay to occasionally let kids borrow their parents iPhones for games though.

I pretty much agree with most of what you said.
I don't think there's anything wrong with using your phone a lot if you are an adult or older teen and can make informed choices for yourself and your health, although it is pretty rude if you are with friends or in a formal setting.
And then yeah, I dunno, not only do I think it's important for parents to try to have quality time with their kids, but with internet connected devices, it's a particularly bad virtual babysitter because there are a lot of really not-PG things on the internet...
The big exception to this is if something like an iPad is needed for accessibility, like I know that some kids who can't speak can use letterboard iPad apps and stuff.
Yeah, although even those people use their devices a bit too much but yeah I guess that is a kind of culture as well in the well-developed countries. And yeah, to me unless you are by yourself or like casually riding the bus it's kinda rude in most occasions, or I don't know...
That and I don't think they should be taught the the world is just online at those ages either, and too much screen radiation can't be good at that age either. I don't think those images are the worst to see either, you shouldn't be too overprotective with that or TV but yes you shouldn't let them go on online forums and stuff unless you know they can handle it which you probably can't if you are 7-8. And yeah as for baby-sitter values it's really bad as well, just give them like, I don't know some paper and pens or a book?
Of course they can be helpful if eg. your kid has severe autism and/or can't communicate too well but then stuff should still be restricted so they don't sit with it too much.

Not their own no, I do think it's neat there are apps and special protective covers and stuff that have games and stuff for little kids, but those should be things their parents download and watch supervised on the parents device, not on the child's own device. Same goes for computers or any other technological device, I mean unless it's a specialized version of one with lots and lots of locks and stuff, or some things like nabi which only have children's apps I think are ok, but to just go out and buy a real iPad or something for just your kid and give them full reign of it is really stupid.
