I made a second character last night, I placed the tent on the beach. It will be a house starting tomorrow and I'll slowly upgrade it (unlike my main characters home that I paid off very quickly).
I'm looking forward to the extra recipes and storage. Plus, it'll give me a chance to use more clothing items and decorate a house in a different style from my own.
I have the house on the small beach area near my airport which is kind of hidden by trees and things now, so I currently plan on making it a cute fantasy house hidden away on the beach.
I also like the fact that I'll be able to play slower on my second character, I don't plan on getting turnips or anything, just slowly paying off my house with money from bugs, fish and things like that.
I have another nintendo account anyway so I used it to make another character and turned her house into a hotel. Don't know if id make a whole new nintendo account just to make a new building though, considering the villagers can't go inside. And I'm still waiting on the new buildings we'll be getting in updates!
I just set up an alt character so my seven-year-old niece could play Animal Crossing with me. She has weak reading skills but has fallen in love with the game. Getting her to play it has been helping her with her reading skills because I'm making her read to figure out what is going on.
I am thinking about seeing if I can get her a cheapish 3DS and New Leaf for her to play on her own. Especially since I know I will be moving away eventually. I figure if it is highly engaging for her, then it will get her to read more. Plus, New Leaf will be slightly easier for her to play because it doesn't have the crafting and is easier to grasp. It would really be her first video game ever other than mobile games.
I'm doing the same as in my town in NL. I have a second character primarily for extra storage, and I'll probably get one or two more later on. Their houses will eventually be used to build up the town like making a restaurant or whatnot. The extra DIY recipes/art/etc. is a bonus for me; I personally wouldn't like making all the 8 characters just to cheese the DIY recipes, so that's why I'm just making them as I need more storage.
I also actually like having another character who isn't "me." You can have fun just making an OC, giving them a backstory, and decorating their house in a different way from how you'd decorate "your" house.
It's infinitely less painful switching between characters in NH than in, say, NL. In NH, if you have an additional controller, you can just turn on the Party Play feature and switch between them to drop items for one another.
I have a second character, but I don’t really play as them other than to grab extra recipes, etc for my main character. She’s just there to have a witchy vibe and add to my islands lore, as my main character is just... well, me lol.
I'm considering making an extra character so i can make a diner or library or something without it being outside, since i always thought it would feel weird especially when it's raining to have either outside. Idk though, since it may stand out weirdly and they may add the cafe soon which, depending on how they implement it, may make me not want to have a diner. Idk, it's all so confusing lol
Definitely planning on having a secondary character once all of my villagers are assembled! I'm not a big fan of making custom "buildings" outside without proper overhead cover (what happens to a café/restaurant with no roof when it starts to rain...?), so having an extra building to work with is an appealing prospect indeed. Even if the villagers never go inside it, it'll be a cool hangout for RL/online friends who visit.
i wasn't planning on creating a second character since it's just me playing, but i caved and made an oc/alt/mule! probably going to use their house as a shop/cafe or something but it's nice having the extra storage and double the amount of diys & item farming
I created a second character because I wanted to decorate more rooms. It's also really nice to have the extra storage space, DIY recipe on the beach, Gulliver items, and ability to buy Redd paintings.
i love the idea of having multiple villagers for story-telling/aesthetic purposes... but it's also so much work that i dont think i'd ever be able to keep it up and be satisfied as well. and waaay too much of a control freak to let others play on the same switch as me LOL
I'm going to wait it out for now just because I'm hopeful they might be adding actual buildings for us to decorate much like in HHD (restaurants, hotels, etc.) through some DLC upgrade.
Maybe that's not going to happen but for now I don't feel like going through the hassle of creating a secondary character.
I play as 5 different characters (I try to mainly play as one a day and rotate through them). On days where I need to load more than one it’s actually not too much of a pain. When you go to the home menu after saving, press Y on the game and it’ll let you switch users which is faster than closing the game with x and picking your other user.
Going through Isabelle’s announcements is a little annoying but thankfully they are pretty short (Splatoon 2 is way worse for long announcements when you boot up). Otherwise it’s pretty quick.
You can always do the local co-op method to switch users too. Just start co-op with your other character via separate joy-cons switch the leader to your other character and then end the co-op. Then boom you are playing as your other character and you didn’t even have to close the game.
